Jennifer Aniston Gets Into Character as Barbra Streisand

Jennifer Aniston landed on the front of the big September issue of Harper's Bazaar, and she channels Barbra Streisand in the accompanying spread by photographer Mark Seliger and the subscriber's cover. Jen has been busy lately filming Horrible Bosses with her excited costar Lindsay Sloane, but our Bikini Bracket winner broke from work to pay homage to her idol Barbra. Jen opened up to the magazine about first meeting Barbra and her husband, James Brolin, as well as about their shared ambitions. Jen said:

  • On borrowing Barbra's talent: "Someone said to me, 'If I had Barbra's voice for just one day,' and I said, 'Nah, I don't want to be greedy. If I had her voice for just one shower — just a shower's worth — I would be happy.'"
  • On first meeting Barbra at a New Year's party recently: "I've loved her since I was a kid, and all of a sudden there she is, and she's just like someone you've always known. You know when you meet people you idolize and then you walk away from the conversation thinking, 'Well, that was a disappointment; they were kinder and more fabulous in my mind'? Well, she was wonderful, and you could talk to her about anything. . . So, I happened to be talking to her and Jim [Streisand's husband, James Brolin] when it struck midnight. They said, 'Excuse us,' kissed each other, and then, very politely, kissed me."
  • On sharing ambitions with Barbra: "I had a long conversation with Barbra about directing because I directed a short a couple years ago, and if I don't do it again soon, I'm going to burst out of my skin. And we also love interior design. Also, we are people who have been put in the spotlight, for better or for worse, and you just keep riding, and you keep overcoming, and you just stay true to what you love to do."

"Put in the spotlight"? HAHA Nobody put her in the spotlight. She's been modeling nude to sell water and perfume and crap. She wants all the attention. Stop lyin', ho. And what have you "overcome" exactly? A broken nail? What a crybaby. Get over youself.

Jen doesn't look anything like Barbara. To me Barb was pretty in her HAY DAY and her movies were way better then Jennifer's . Jennifer needs to step out the box more in movie genre to be like Barb.
I swear, the only way this woman FINALLY changes her boring look is to imitate somebody. Geez, get a hair cut, do an updo, dye your hair a different color, stop being "Rachel Green" already. She's going to be a hundred years old with the same boring hair!
It's a lovely photo shoot. Jen looks beautiful as always. People that know her always talk about how nice and natural she is. I like her movies and enjoy watching her because she doesn't seem fake. I think The Switch looks good, Jason Bateman is good, the little boy is darling and she looks good. You may not like her but a lot of you spend a lot of your life talking about her. Either way you are taking a huge interest in her. Something keeps drawing you to her posts.
UGH! I cannot stand people! All these comments about Jen having to immitate someone, desperation, etc. LOOK all over popsugar. Once a month, if not more, some magazine, be it Vogue, Glamor, you name it--is dressing a star or stars as a classic or deceased star. It's been done a million times and will continue to be done. She is just the choice de jour. Why pick on her when she is just the current in a LONG LIST!?!?!?!?!??!?! UGHHHHHH!

At least we know Jen doesn't take herself too seriously. She looks so much like Babs, It's amazing! Barbabra Streisand was really beautiful in her days and in her own way.
I agree #23. Victim much? She acts like she was forced into the spotlight and isn't out there trying to seek it herself. Unbelieveable. And then she talks about "overcoming"? What has she overcome? Was she in a refugee camp? Did she survive hurricane Katrina? Get over yourself Aniston. You are a rich spoiled woman with the victim mentality of a 12 yr old. Sad.
We should all be as lucky to be able to dress up as our idol for a fashion shoot! I love Barbra and I love Jen. They are both beautiful in their own way. Jen looks amazing here, and I completely agree with her about being able to borrow Barbra's voice for just a showers worth. Oh how my neighbours would love me then. lol What a gorgeous spread. I can only image the high energy on this shoot, considering how much Jen loves Barbra. I agree with jaan_black - no reason to freak out. Just 'pump the brakes' and enjoy this image for what it is. :)

when I think of Barbara Streisand, it's her role in "The way we were".. so romantic, sad, sensual,... So I don't think JA can pull off the retro style even she's wearing high-fashion clothes... she's so modern and sleek..
UGh, EPIC FAIL. She has to imitate someone else to be interesting! Otherwise, she's a COMPLETE snore bore. Sorry Jen, you don't have 1/10th of the talent of Streisand. She's a legend and you're still Rachel/trying too hard.

I have always said that she bears a strong resemblance to Barbra Streisand! And the pictures prove the point. I do have to agree that she definitely is NOT the talent that Babs is...never has been and likely will never be.
The reason they did this shoot, I'm going to propose, is because they want people to think, "Jen as Barbara?? Can Jennifer even sing??" And then, in a few months from now, they are going to release that new big movie where she plays a singer in a band. Let the oscar campaigning begin. Who even needs the movie to come out first? Celebrity is all mind games.
She looks great. The photos look a little like some of her old photo shoots, especially the eye makeup. Just as beautiful as ever.

Whatever you guys say, you can't disagree that these photos are good. They have a good setting, hair, makeup, lighting. All round these pictures are nice to look at. If I was asked to do this I would probably agree and do the same. Please don't try and twist something as simple as a celebrity photo shoot in a magazine into something it isn't. It's pathetic.

If other actors accepted their looks the way Ms. Streisand did and does, we would not have the pushed, pulled and poked faces of other people in Hollywood. I would be complemented if someone said I looked like a true, multi-talented icon and I hope anniston was as it is an honor.
They both are not attractive thatis the only thing they have in common. Barbara has a talent JA has nothing beside whinning and show her 41 year old body. It is funny she gets on this route now. There is a vedio where she got almost chocked when they try to compare her with Barbara in the past. You have to give it for her PR monister.

Yes, Barbra is talented but on the other hand it would take a thick skin to hear "You look like Barbra Steisand." I wonder if JA is just sucking up in her quotes or if she was actually flattered? I mean, no one is comparing her talent to Barbra.
