The Republican and Democratic national conventions are both right around the corner, and we've got four important reasons why you'll want to pay attention to that political scene, in today's. Pop Sugar Rush. Hey guys, I'm Carly Mullane, and joining us now before she heads off to both conventions is TresSugar Editor, Annie Scudder. Hey, Annie. Hey, Carly. Let's kick things off with the basics. So Republicans are going to convene in Tampa, Florida the week of August 27th unless tropical storm Isaac then the Democrats are going to gather in Charlotte, North Carolina the week of September 3rd. Both parties are going to nominate candidates for President and Vice-President President, and while it is pretty much guaranteed that it's going to be Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan and Barack Obama and Joe Biden, tell us about some surprises that might happen that we might look out for. OK, so I'm going to definitely be on the lookout for the next big political star. You know back in 2004 Barack Obama was just a state Senator from Illinois and he gave that really moving speech and look where it got him. Amazing. Yeah, so this year Nikki Haley, she is the South Carolina Governor and her state's first female Governor and she has a speech coming up at the convention so I am really curious to see what she has to say. She might stand out from the rest. Well keeping with the theme of influential women. The wives of the candidates are also going to be in the spotlight. Right, so Michelle Obama and Ann Romney will both be giving keynote addresses and back in 2008 Michelle Obama's speech was really a highlight. I was there in Denver and she was just a really articulate and stunning advocate for her husband and there's extra bonus she brought out Sasha and Malia and Barack Obama surprised everybody on the screen. Nice. It was really special, so I'm excited to hear what she has to say. And, Romney is scheduled to speak on the first day of the Republican Convention, but that actually might be moved around. because the networks decided not to cover the first day. Actually, PBS is planning to run a rerun of Hawaii Five-O. So, but either way I am curious to hear what she has to say. Right. And you can definitely catch their speech on Fox News or CNN on cable or Youtube's political channel, and of course we'll have our reaction to it. Of course, and speeches given by the candidates. are going to be really important to pay attention to because we will get more of an idea on where they stand on all these issues. Exactly, so if you you've been tuning out the campaign so far, this is the time that you can check in and find out what they have to say; what their priorities are, what their policies are, [xx] Mitt Romney and Barack Obama tends to pitch the general and American audience. And women's issues will definitely be getting some attention as it has so far. very important. On a lighter note though there is another fun reason why we should watch the convention and that's because all the fake and the supporters are going to be out in full force. Definitely. So Eva Longoria who is a national co-chair for the Obama campaign is set to give a speech on Thursday the same day Barack Obama will be accepting the nomination for re-election. And Elizabeth Faith has also confirmed that she'll be there. And I think we can expect to see some other famous faces. In 2008, big names like Oprah, Jessica Alba, Ben Affleck, were at the Democratic Convention, so I'll definitely have my eye out for some celebrity sightings. Nice, so we're looking forward to your field reports Annie. Thank you for filling us in on the convention. My pleasure. And as Annie mentioned you can watch video from the conventions at youtube/politics. Of course we will also be giving you our take on everything as we edge closer to election day. So stay tuned to Pop Sugar TV. For now I'm Carly Mullane. And I'm Annie Scudder. And we'll see you next time on Pop Sugar Rush.
