Prince Harry Gives the Cold Chamber a Go For His South Pole Stint

Prince Harry spent the night in a giant freezer as a training exercise to prepare for the cold conditions he will face when he makes the trek to the South Pole in November. During his overnight stay, the prince was subjected to temperatures below freezing and winds of 45 miles per hour while he learned about the proper techniques to keep warm and avoid frostbite. Of his 20 hours in the frigid conditions, Prince Harry revealed the worst part was "going in." He is set to spend about 15 days in the South Pole during his November excursion, where he will join forces with a team of British servicemen and women who were injured in Afghanistan to race against groups from the US and Commonwealth, with a goal of covering 9 to 12 miles each day. Prince Harry will have a bit of famous help to make the expedition as True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard is set to join him for the South Pole challenge.

The overnight in torturous temps may have been a change in pace for Harry, who was busy celebrating his 29th birthday over the weekend. Adding to the special occasion was another celebratory event — Prince Harry joined his brother, Prince William, and his sister-in-law Pippa Middleton at the wedding of Lady Laura Marsham and James Meade in Gayton on Saturday.
