Prince Harry showed his support when he attended the London Marathon yesterday, less than a week after the tragic Boston Marathon bombing shook America and the international community. He was already scheduled to make an appearance at the event, which drew 36,000 runners, and told reporters that missing the marathon was "never an option." Prince Harry said, "The way Boston has dealt with [the bombing] has been absolutely remarkable." The memory of the Boston victims was not forgotten as runners observed a 30-second moment of silence before the race began.
Prince Harry did get a chance to show off his famous sense of humor, joking to volunteers that Prince William and sport-loving Kate Middleton couldn't attend the event because "she's pregnant and he's getting old." In reality, the duchess couldn't drop by the marathon because she was attending the National Review of Queen's Scouts at Windsor Castle, where Kate Middleton showed her baby bump in a mint-green coat. While at the marathon, Harry met up with Sir Richard Branson, who was a sponsor for the annual celebration, and friend Isabella Calthorpe, who is the sister of Harry's girlfriend, Cressida Bonas, and the daughter-in-law of Richard. Isabella is no stranger to hanging out with royals as she was reportedly Prince William's object of affection before he married Kate. Marathons and chatting up his sister's family aside, it's been a busy weekend for Harry since he also announced Friday that he will participate in a race to the South Pole in November.
