Why William and Harry Called Out the Press in Datchet

Feb 14 2014 - 8:10am

Prince William and Prince Harry got their hands dirty on Friday, when they set out on a private mission to help with the flood relief efforts in Datchet, England. The area had been hit hard by severe Winter storms, resulting in damaging floods across the country. The princes' visit was met with a bit of controversy, as they reportedly lashed out at members of the press who approached them while they were helping to load sandbags along a railway crossing. When a reporter approached William [1], he reportedly said, "Why don't you put your notebook down and give us a hand with the sandbag?" Later, when asked if he was enjoying his work with the relief effort, Harry replied, "Not really with you guys around." According to Kensington Palace, the brothers' appearance in Datchet was not meant to be an official appearance or a photo opportunity, as it was a "private effort" that the two decided to take part in with members for the Armed Forces. Their journey to Datchet was reportedly organized at the last minute and was not announced beforehand.

Meanwhile, William's wife, Kate Middleton, was busy with work of her own [2] helping to open an art therapy center at a school in London on Friday. The Duchess of Cambridge, who just recently made a solo appearance at a gala at the National Portrait Gallery, smiled and joked with the schoolchildren and was even gifted with a nice bouquet of flowers.
