Rob, Diane, and More Make For amfAR Highlights at Cannes

Another Cannes red carpet lit up today, but this time it was about charity instead of movies as the stars came out for Sharon Stone's annual amfAR's Cinema Against AIDS 2009 benefit.

Another Cannes red carpet lit up today, but this time it was about charity instead of movies as the stars came out for Sharon Stone's annual amfAR's Cinema Against AIDS 2009 benefit. After a long night of partying with Brad and Angelina, Joshua Jackson accompanied Diane Kruger to the event, while Paris and Doug represented a different kind of couple. Robert Pattinson didn't need a leading lady on his arm to stand out in another dapper suit and Josh Hartnett also provided some eye candy for the ladies. The festival is starting to wind down, but the celebs still seem to be bringing out their best to the hectic schedule of events.

Brad and Angelina Lead the Afterparty Parade

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie let loose with the rest of the cast of Inglourious Basterds at a party after the big premiere in Cannes yesterday.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie let loose with the rest of the cast of Inglourious Basterds at a party after the big premiere in Cannes yesterday. They looked happy cozying up to each other and chatting with their fellow party-goers, like Quentin Tarantino and Emile Hirsch, though apparently there were eight bodyguards keeping a close eye on the couple at all times. Diane Kruger snuggled up with Joshua Jackson, who skipped the red carpet earlier to let his lady have the spotlight. Robin Wright Penn got down on the dance floor as the whole crew continued to enjoyed all the star-studded goodness the festival has to offer.

Brad, Angie, and Rob Make For One Glourious Red Carpet

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie stepped out on the red carpet this morning for the much-anticipated premiere of Inglourious Basterds at Cannes.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie stepped out on the red carpet this morning for the much-anticipated premiere of Inglourious Basterds at Cannes. It's always such a treat to see Angelina mixing it up from basic black, and she added a touch of drama with her super red lips and daring slit, which showed off her sexy legs — what do you think of her look? Brad kept it simple in his tux, while Diane Kruger made sure to stand out in her white Marchesa gown.

A coiffed Robert Pattinson was an added bonus, fitting right in with the other gorgeous stars after looking hot all by himself yesterday. It's an extra good day for the young hot star — Rob just added a new movie role to his schedule. Also making sure to not miss out on the biggest premiere of the festival was Paris, who remained attached at the hip with Doug.

Jim Carrey

Jim and Jenny Bring Christmas to Cannes

Jim Carrey had Jenny McCarthy on his arm at a photo call for A Christmas Carol in Cannes yesterday.

Jim Carrey had Jenny McCarthy on his arm at a photo call for A Christmas Carol in Cannes yesterday. It's a bit early to start thinking about the holiday season, though Jim had no problem finding his spirit as he threw fake snowballs and let his future talk show host girlfriend lovingly brush snowflakes out of his hair. We'll have to wait until November to see Jim showcase his voice as Scrooge in the animated film, but he's already talking about how much he loved being part of the transformation of the classic character.

State of Play: Surprisingly Gripping Journalism Thriller

In the movies and on TV, investigations always look so exciting and fun — piecing together the facts, swapping clues, untangling the web strand by strand, etc.

In the movies and on TV, investigations always look so exciting and fun — piecing together the facts, swapping clues, untangling the web strand by strand, etc. In a story centered around journalism, this mystery-solving stuff is what makes it fun to watch, especially if there's also a good dose of realism but not so much that it becomes mired in realistic details and we get bored. State of Play very nicely balances these things: It's a sensational murder mystery-thriller but with a scruffy, grumpy journalist lead character and a supporting cast of equally "normal" people. There's enough fiction and embellishment to be escapism, and enough reality to make it believable.

Russell Crowe plays grizzled journalist Cal McAffrey who is something of a legendary dinosaur at the struggling Washington Globe newspaper. His longtime friend, Congressman Stephen Collins (Ben Affleck), comes under scrutiny when a woman from his research team dies tragically and the public learns that Collins was having an affair with her. As the police conduct their own investigation, Cal himself tries to get to the bottom of the woman's mysterious death — partially to get a juicy story and partially to help clear his friend's name in the scandalous situation. The young, eager blogger Della Frye (Rachel McAdams) insists on teaming up with Cal on his search as she tries to prove herself as a writer at the Globe. Together they work to uncover the truth, but every new revelation brings with it a twisty new discovery and soon the two journalists find themselves enmeshed in a nasty mixture of political conspiracies and tangled personal relationships. That's all I'll say about the plot, but for more of my thoughts on it all, read more

Come Inside the Governors Ball

After the big show in the Kodak Theater, the first stop for many of the attendees was the Governors Ball.

After the big show in the Kodak Theater, the first stop for many of the attendees was the Governors Ball. Along with attending this year's Oscars via the red carpet and the press room, we were fortunate enough to have a ticket to the fancy affair. While on the inside we watched the celebrities feast on their Wolfgang Puck meal set in the Asian-themed room decor. Celebs made their way through additional television press, which included a lot of singing from the youngest of the Slumdog cast, who were some of the last to arrive. Anne Hathaway continued to make it a family affair posing with her brother. She was being greeted nonstop and barely found any time to eat her meal, which included a three-tiered chocolate dessert with an Oscar on the top. Robert Pattinson and fellow teen heartthrob Zac Efron chatted and toasted with Vanessa Hudgens before heading over to the VF afterparty. There was lots of casual mingling with peers in the ballroom and some took a few smoking breaks on the side. Heidi and Seal continued to make the rounds, but were they your favorite Oscar couple of the night?

Would Your Feelings Be Hurt If He Forgot to Thank You?

It feels like one major star per awards show forgets to thank his or her significant other during the acceptance speech.

It feels like one major star per awards show forgets to thank his or her significant other during the acceptance speech. While an acting win is based on performance and craft, giving thanks to the person who loves and supports you should just come naturally, if you ask me.

Last night, it was Sean Penn, who neglected to thank his wife, Robin Wright Penn, when he took the Oscar podium after winning Best Actor for Milk. I'm sure it wasn't an intentional blunder, but tell me ladies, would you have hurt feelings if it was your significant other up there forgetting to thank you, or would you chalk it up to nerves and excitement?

Blake and Robin Escort Keanu to Premiere Pippa in Berlin

Last May we saw Blake Lively filming The Private Lives of Pippa Lee and yesterday she brought the movie to the Berlin Film Festival.

Last May we saw Blake Lively filming The Private Lives of Pippa Lee and yesterday she brought the movie to the Berlin Film Festival. Blake showed off her long legs at the photo call before slipping into something a little more Grecian for the premiere. In the movie Blake plays the younger version of Robin Wright Penn in flashbacks and seeing the two women here the similarities are obvious. The lovely ladies were joined by their costar Keanu Reeves who happily signed autographs for fans. He may not be a leggy blonde like his female counterparts, but we're all for Keanu-love.
