5 Highlights From the Django Unchained Press Conference in NYC

Quentin Tarantino was joined by the stars of his newest film, Django Unchained, for a press conference at the Ritz-Carlton in NYC yesterday morning.

Quentin Tarantino was joined by the stars of his newest film, Django Unchained, for a press conference at the Ritz-Carlton in NYC yesterday morning. We were on the scene to hear the cast talk about the movie, which opens Dec. 25, and discuss what it was like playing slaves and slave-owners.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx, Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington, and several other actors were on hand to discuss the powerful film, which manages to turn a horrifying tale of slavery into a Spaghetti Western-esque masterpiece. They've all been busy promoting the new movie, which premiered in NYC with some help from Leo's friend Cameron Diaz last week.

Read on to see our five favorite moments from the press conference, including a surprise appearance by Jonah Hill.

New Django Unchained Trailer: Now With Jonah Hill and Samuel L. Jackson

The first trailer for Django Unchained solidified that this movie is Western done Quentin Tarantino style, and the new preview not only reasserts that, but things get even more familiar when the director's frequent collaborator Samuel L.

The first trailer for Django Unchained solidified that this movie is Western done Quentin Tarantino style, and the new preview not only reasserts that, but things get even more familiar when the director's frequent collaborator Samuel L. Jackson shows up. As we learned before, the film follows a slave, Django (Jamie Foxx), who partners with a bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) to find his wife, who has been sold to cruel landowner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio). In this new trailer, we get a more extended peek at the interaction between the slippery Calvin and Django, and we meet several new characters — including Jonah Hill as an unmasked Klansman.

I was thrilled at the first trailer, but this one has me even more excited. There's more Tarantino-style humor, and I'm already loving the playful dynamic between Waltz and Foxx's characters. Django Unchained opens Christmas day, but you can watch the trailer after the jump.

As Nick Fury, Samuel L. Jackson has popped up in most of the prequel movies to The Avengers, but the character gets a lot more screen time this time around. Still, Jackson expressed that he used to be a bit envious of his superhero costars when I chatted with him at a press day for The Avengers. He also talked about his hopes for a Nick Fury movie, and shared stories about working with Quentin Tarantino in Django Unchained. Check it out:

Comic-Con was full of fun surprises, and one of the best was getting to see the full cast of The Avengers together for the first time ever!

Comic-Con was full of fun surprises, and one of the best was getting to see the full cast of The Avengers together for the first time ever! At the end of the Thor panel, Samuel L. Jackson took the stage to introduce the actors we already knew, while Robert Downey Jr. took on the duty of showing off the latest additions. Here's the first photo of the full cast — RDJ (Iron Man), Clark Gregg (Agent Coulson), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Chris Evans (Captain America), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), and Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk). Joining them is Joss Whedon, who will direct. They are definitely a ridiculously talented (not to mention good-looking) bunch, but how do you feel about the band of caped crusaders?
