Don't You Wish Sandra Bullock Spoke at Your Graduation?

Warren Easton Charter High School's class of 2014 got a big surprise when Sandra Bullock stepped up to the podium during their graduation ceremony in New Orleans on Monday. It isn't the first time she's spoken to the high school's students, as she donated money to the school back in 2010 to help it rebuild in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. This time, though, her speech was more lighthearted. True to form, Sandra opened with a joke, saying, "I was trying to remember my graduation and, oddly, I couldn't remember anything. I remembered how good I looked and then I went back and looked at pictures and I really didn't look so good." She went on to share the thoughtful bits of advice she says she's been giving to her son, 4-year-old Louis. Watch the video above to see her speech, including some of the memorable bits of wisdom below:

  • "Nothing is a failure. It's just not supposed to work out that way because something better is supposed to come along."
  • "The rule is, you have to dance a little bit before you step out into the world because it changes the way you walk. It changes the way you walk out in the world."
  • "Go find your joy. It's what you're going to remember in the end. It's not the worry, it's not the what-ifs. It's the joy that stays with you."
