Last night at the Getaway premiere, Selena Gomez wore a voluminous and textured ponytail that you can re-create in 10 minutes flat. "When I saw Selena's dress, I knew that her hair needed to be up," said her hairstylist Richard Collins. "We decided to create a look that would let the dress speak for itself while at the same time calling attention to the sexiness of her hair. So we went for a ponytail that had a more edgy and runway-esque feel to it."
This looks starts with a head full of tousled waves. Use a medium-barrel curling iron and Serge Normant Meta Luxe Hairspray ($25) to get the beachy texture before you pull your hair back. "We loved the idea of sexy and messy as opposed to sleek, so we kept the top of her hair and her hairline on the 'messier' side," Collins said. In order to keep the look disheveled, he pulled hair back loosely into a midheight ponytail, allowing the finger tracks to remain. Finally, he wrapped a section of hair around the elastic to hide it and secure with a few bobby pins underneath the ponytail. Since the look is about messy texture, you don't have to worry about it looking perfect, and that makes it all the easier to achieve.
