krisua, Germany doesn't view Scientology as a religion, but as a money-making cult with totalitarian tendencies. Given the country's history with totalitarian organizations, this reaction is more than understandable. Try to see it from the German perspective: if someone had stopped the Nazis before they had gotten into power, history would have been very different. And yes, I'm comparing Scientology to National Socialism... After reading up on their policies ("Fair Game") and watching that BBC panorama programme "Scientology and Me" recently, I have lost all respect for them.

I think the Scientology stuff is so wrong. No-one makes restrictions when you're a Christian. I think people's choices of religion should be respected.

canthelpwatching, nobody is "shutting down a complete film" and nobody is "kicking people out of Germany because of their religion". The ministry of defence has said they won't give permission for their Berlin headquarters, the Bendlerblock, to be used for the film. That's it. Let me quote an article about what a German politician (the cult expert for the CDU party), Antje Blumenthal, had to say about this: "Blumenthal accused the organization of spreading views in the tradition of National Socialism - "and I find it, to say the least, odd that someone who represents this organization would be able to film at the site of a memorial to resistance against National Socialism of all places.""

I had the misfortune of having a spouse that was interested in Tom's vh1 reality show. I am so sad that he relapsed because he seemed to honestly want to get better, but he didn't seem to want to make the committment necessary to make a life change. I wanna say poor guy, but I'm not because even 18 months of jail time is not going to make his mind right =o[

Tom Sizemore is a messed up dude, he needs jail and rehab ASAP!The Chris Benoit murder/suicide story breaks my heart. I don't watch or follow wrestling at all but anytime someone murders their spouse and young child it's an absolute travesty.I heard the wife had previously taken out a restraining order against him and later had it withdrawn. What a sad situation.

while i find scientology to be an abhorrent and false "religion",people should be able to believe whatever they and still be able to do their job, no matter what country. tom cruise may be a wack job but he truly believes the crap that he spews. for a government to tell him his beliefs are wrong and he cannot work in their country until he believes in something else, is oppressive plain and simple. as far as filming in another country, it would a) be very costly to build a set to look like historic landmarks for WWII germany vs actually filming there and b) the only way you can get less authentic than filming a movie on germany in the us, is having tom cruise play the lead role, fake german accent and all.
