Sutton Foster Bunheads Season One Interview (Video)

Bunheads' Sutton Foster Promises a "Very Familiar" Gilmore Girls Guest Star

Sutton Foster was no stranger to the world of dance when she took on the role of Michelle, a former Vegas showgirl, on ABC Family's Bunheads. We recently sat down with the Tony-winning actress to talk about bringing her Broadway background to the small screen and playing a mentor, both on and off camera, to her young costars. Bunheads, which is from the creator of Gilmore Girls, has already featured alums from that series, and it sounds like there are even more ahead. During our chat, Sutton hinted that one "very familiar" face from Gilmore Girls will make an appearance on Bunheads later this season. Bunheads airs on ABC Family tonight at 9:00/8:00 Central.

there are definitely some more Gilmore peeps coming down the line I think at first I thought it was really cool. And then I think it wears off after a while. This show is from the creator of Gilmore Girls. This show seems to have some of the same heart, too It definitely does. Yeah. I think that Amy Sherman-Palladino who wrote Gilmore; I would follow her anywhere; I was a huge fan of Gilmore and this show definitely has the same like tone. Yeah. Heart. Yeah. You know, like sensibility the characters that are flawed but all have good intentions. Are complicated and funny and quirky and off. So, she creates this beautiful world that you're like, this world could never exist but if it did I would want to live there, you know? Right, yeah. So it's cool. It's fun to be a part of. It's unlike anything else. Well, and there have been some Gilmore Girls alums on the show. What? I know one of our Twitter fans really wanted to know if we can expect more of those in the future. There are definitely some more... Oh really? Okay. ...Gilmore peeps coming down the line. It's actually kind of exciting. In the next episode that's coming up there's a familiar face, and then in episode 9 there 's a very familiar face Interesting. Yeah, it's really cool. We can't give too much away right now. No, not yet. Michelle has been taking up a little bit of a leadership role with the girls. Do you think that the actresses also kind of look up to you as a bit of a role model? I think at first they thought I was really cool, and then I think it wears off after a while. At first I was like, "Yeah, that's right." Now they're just, you know, make fun of me and walk all over me. You know, they are, I guess I am very similar to Michelle in many ways, where I am obviously, there's a reality. I'm older than them. I've had more experience than them. at. But I also want to be their friend and I also want them to think I'm cool and I want to fit in and I guess I do have a responsibility to say, "Hey, look you know This is how I am at work and I'm going to treat everybody really great and I want you to look up to me. Yeah, set a nice tone like that. Set a nice example. I do feel a bit of a responsibility. I don't want to be the big jerk, you know. Sure. You know teaching the girls bad things, so. What have you brought from your past on Broadway to this series. Well, do you mean like personally or do you mean just its like. Personally and professionally. I think professionally, work ethic, you know, I'm used to working hard. You know, Broadway is, being a theater actor and working, you know, you do eight shows a week and it could be relentless but amazing. I'm used to working hard. Right. I think I've definitely brought that to this environment. It's exciting to be on a show that's about artists. Yeah. You know, we're dancers. I 'm a dancer, Fanny's a dancer, all the girls are dancers. That's our passion, that's what we want and that's, so I'm able to bring that first hand because that's the life that I lead. You know, I don't sit behind a desk. I put on makeup and sparkly costumes and I dance and perform for a living, so it's kind of neat to be able to portray a character that The best that's what drives her. Well what do you think of the potential for a Bunheads musical? Oh. Wouldn't that be nice? Bunheads musical. I could totally see that. That would be really cool. Maybe a couple seasons down the road, we'll see where it goes. Yeah, we could definitely have a musical episode. The greatest thing about Amy's world, again, is that she creates these wonderful characters and they all have a bit of theatrics in them and so to translate that to the stage would be, I think could actually happen
