Tokyo Is Really, Really Excited to Host the 2020 Olympics

Over the weekend, Tokyo was chosen to host the 2020 Olympic Games, beating out Madrid and Istanbul with its bid. The Japanese capital hasn't hosted the Summer Olympics since 1964, and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said he's thrilled about the announcement while speaking at a press conference. "Sport has the power to unite people," he said, adding, "We experienced that after the earthquake and tsunami in 2011, when athletes came to our country and helped us. Japan needs the power of sport, we need hopes and dreams."

Thousands of Tokyo residents celebrated the news at Komazawa Olympics Stadium, a soccer venue that was used when Tokyo hosted in the '60s. Meanwhile, at a convention hall downtown, more than 1,200 dignitaries and Olympic athletes watched the announcement together, rising up out of their seats to cheer for the exciting news.
