Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are getting a divorce after more than five years of marriage. The story was confirmed today by Katie's lawyer, who said, "This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family. Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest."

We're taking a look back at their sweetest family moments, starting with the beginning of their relationship in 2005. Katie was by Tom's side as he went around the globe showing off War of the Worlds that year, and just a short time later, it was confirmed that Katie was pregnant with their daughter Suri. Suri was born in April 2006, and Tom and Katie tied the knot in a special Italian ceremony in November of that year. @liverwurst Exactly--Tom went for full custody last time, as he wants all his children raised in his religion. There was no way he was letting Nicole wrest control away. So I am shocked Katie is going for it, because it might present a big fight, but also very very glad She finally grew a spine, I guess. No longer a robot! Good for Katie. Again all reports indicate he might not fight it because of the paternity issue...

I believe she had a 5 year commitment with an additional 5 renewal. After only 5 she was to hand over custody of Suri that's why she's filing in NY.

Not at all surprised to hear the announcement as it was always an eventuality. I am a little surprised she is going for full custody. (Though it explains why we have paparazzi shots of Katie and her daughter on such a consistent basis--huge public sympathy playing card. Katie has been guided in all her moves by her father, who is a prominent divorce attorney and helped draft the pre-nup.) Inside reports seem to indicate Tom won't fight it, because he won't risk the possibilty Katie's lawyers would bring up a DNA test.

I agree that she seems to have aged a lot in the past 5 years. And, you rarely saw the 3 of them together anymore except for when Katie would visit him on set. It also seemed to me like she would rarely dress up anymore. She always seemed to look so "walmarti" in her clothing choices whenever you would see her out with Suri. It was like she did not care what she looked like when she went out. I hope she will find happiness as she seems like a nice person. I also doubt he will get Suri like he did his other two children. She will fight him tooth and nail and then we will probably find out that it is not his child anyhow.

jaan_black- Exactly! Obviously this was one of those 'fake' setup Hollywood marriages. Go to blind gossip where Ace gives you all the back stories on these lies. They had a five year contract. Yes, Hollyweird is that f'd up. Sad.

I never really got these two together but I was happy Tom had love in his life and got Suri. Divorce? I didn't see this coming! I predict he'll marry again - soon. He's a romantic. He loves being in a marriage.

I'll always love Tom Cruise. I was devastated when he and Nicole broke up but I'm glad Tom has life in his life with Katie and all his children.
