Bar Refaeli went short and sweet in a sequined Roberto Cavalli mini last night to attend Chopard's Happy Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend party in Cannes. She jetted to France after spending much of last week in Germany, where she did press for her upcoming campaign with Escada. Her ex Leonardo DiCaprio has also been near the film festival, reconnecting with friends and listening to a Kanye West performance over the weekend at a private production company's concert. Leonardo DiCaprio and Blake Lively are also the subject of some recent romance rumors, after being linked last year while she auditioned, unsuccessfully, for a role in The Great Gatsby remake. Leo wasn't spotted at the bash yesterday, but Bar had the company of jurors Jude Law and a Dolce & Gabanna-clad Uma Thurman. Naomi Campbell also stepped out for the event following a cameo at the Fashion For Relief Japan Fundraiser.

Penelope Cruz had a major bombshell moment in a sexy violet Marchesa gown with costar Johnny Depp on her arm at this evening's Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. The two also stepped out for their photo call and press conference earlier in the day, where Penelope Cruz talked about aging and Johnny revealed that the only important critics in his life are his children. Both Johnny and Penelope were without their partners, Vanessa Paradis and Javier Bardem, respectively, which is already the trend for their promotional duties from LA to Russia to London. New mom Penelope has been knocking it out of the park with her red-carpet picks, and this dramatic dress is no exception. Also on the momentarily rainy red carpet were Cannes jurors Jude Law, Uma Thurman, and Robert De Niro. Johnny and Penelope's cute newcomer castmate Sam Claflin was decked out for his debut at the famous French festival, and his star is only on the rise as he recently signed on to star opposite Kristen Stewart in Snow White and the Huntsman.

Rosario Dawson, Vanessa Hudgens, and Uma Thurman hit the beachside red carpet for Calvin Klein, Calvin Klein euphoria, and the Independent Filmmakers Project in Cannes last night. The setting was perfection and the crowd of onlookers was thrilled to get a glimpse at the stars as they headed into the bash at Hotel Martinez's waterside setup. Uma has been everywhere as one of this year's Cannes Film Festival jurors and both she and Rosario were honored at the evening's event. Rosario and Vanessa spent the afternoon shopping around the town's many luxury shops after arriving in Nice earlier in the day. Vanessa Hudgens was quoted about coming out to support her friend, "I think it’s really great when somebody gives women an opportunity to come out and stand up for what they are doing, and I’m so excited to be here." The duo were also glowing as they arrived side-by-side to make their way into the exclusive soiree. It was just one of many celebrations going on up and down the Cannes promenade and just across the street in the penthouse balcony of the Hotel Martinez, Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson were cuddling up at L'Oreal Paris's private party.

The Cannes Film Festival kicked off with a star-studded opening ceremony that had the red carpet full of famous faces in the French city today. Salma Hayek posed in a gorgeous Gucci Première gown with her husband, Francois-Henri Pinault, on her arm, while model Karolina Kurkova stopped for the cameras solo in a blue Armani Prive. Uma Thurman, in a white Versace number, was accompanied by fellow judges Robert De Niro and Jude Law as they made their way up the grand staircase. Longtime couple Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas were also on hand for the start of the festivities, as was international actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who wore Elie Saab. They all made their way inside the Palais des Festivals, where Uma, Jude, and Robert took the stage while Woody Allen and more watched from the audience. The event was just the first of many that will take place in the next week, with expected attendees Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, and Sean Penn all making their way to the luxurious South of France to join in the fun.

Jude Law and Robert De Niro sandwiched Uma Thurman during a photo call this morning in France. The trio make up a portion of the jury at this year's Cannes Film Festival, along with other cinema people like Linn Ullmann, Nansun Shi, Mahamat-Saleh Haroun, Johnnie To, Martina Gusman, and Carlos director Olivier Assayas. Uma, in Dolce & Gabbana, had a white dress faceoff with fellow early riser Rachel McAdams, who was also out today to promote her movie Midnight in Paris. Jude touched down near the Mediterranean just yesterday to get settled before his judging duties commenced. Robert is the head of their group, a task he should be comfortable with after years of helming the Tribeca Film Festival, which just wrapped up recently in NYC.
