Director Gary Ross and author Suzanne Collins decided that the Academy Award nominee and Winter's Bone star was the perfect pick for the role from the beloved book series. should've cast steinfeld from true grit. she would've killed it. i'm disappointed.
I'm still not convinced...I'll guess I'll have to wait and see the movie to see how she does.
she doesn't have the right body type either, should be someone thinner and more toned

I'm sure she's a good actress, but Katniss is petite (Jennifer is 5'7"), and dark haired. They went totally against the physical description in the book. Yes, hair colored can be easily changed, but it seems so much against type here. Of course Collins has to say she's happy with the casting otherwise, she'd look like a jerk. Most of the time, authors have no say in who is cast as their characters.
How are these good reasons again? They don't have anything to do with playing Katniss, really, or tell us how she's better for the role than anyone else. Seriously.
I love her and she can act!

#1, She is way to old. #2, she is blond Katniss has black hair. #3, she looks to old to play the role and if they do the other 2 they better do them pretty damn fast, if not film them all at the same time, #4 There are many others who would be better for this role than her. Just one more thing to say, They better pick a good person to play Peeta, He better be gorgeous, breathtaking, and extremely sexy. (Unlike that Gabriel guy who was rumored to play Peeta on imdb.) I will be crossing my fingers about the cast. :fingercrossed:

Firstly, she's too old for the role! Katniss is 16 and she's 20. Also, if Hunger Games becomes a franchise, she'll be a lot older by the time Mockingjay comes out. Secondly, their number 1 reason is a reason for why she shouldn't play Katniss. Katniss isn't supposed to be blond or pretty and Jenifer is both.

I agree with Lauren; I have doubt she'll do a good job, but she doesn't have the look described for Katniss. However, if the author gave her blessing, I'll keep an open mind - now if they could just hurry and cast the rest of the roles perfectly and start shooting! I can't wait for this movie...

Ugh, I think she's a great actress but totally wrong for the role. Peeta is supposed to be the blonde hair blue eyed kid from their district!

I'm excited for the movie. I'm interested in seeing if she can act or not.
I bet she does a great job of transforming herself into the character. I think we'll all be impressed with her performance.

I have to admit, I wasn't sure what I thought about this casting, but these points are swaying me a bit. Either way so excited for the film!
