What Is Malala Day?

Inspirational Taliban Survivor Addresses UN on Her 16th Birthday

Today is Malala Day, which also happens to be brave Taliban survivor Malala Yousafzai's 16th birthday. The day was declared in honor of the young Pakistani activist who was shot in the head by Taliban members last year for simply seeking and advocating for education, and its accompanying hashtag #MalalaDay is trending on Twitter. At the UN today, Malala articulated the goal she risked her life for: "We want schools and education. No one can stop us. We will speak up for our rights."
