What did you look for in a High Chair?

We are searching for a high chair and there are so many to choose from! What are some things that you would suggest we look for? Do you think that wheels are important?

We got the Graco Contempo - it came fully assembled, has the slimmest fold of any chair on the market, is height adjustable, reclined, ours also came with a fabric cover and a vinyl wipe clean cover...and best yet was the top recom. by consumer reports.

The Chicco Polly was on sale so we bought it today! She loves it! Thank you for all your suggestions!

I didn't read everyone else's responses, but I like one that can recline back for a younger baby, one that is easy to clean= for me this means a fabric cover that comes off and I can wash everyday or everyother day once the child is in the learning-to-feed-himself stage and is messier :) I found that, for myself, things I thought were a big deal weren't... attatched toy bar(they preferred the one's they could hold and suck on) and wheels(they are not that heavy that it's such a big deal to scoot them across the floor if need be) and size- bigger is not always better. I sure like the reclining option. Even a young toddler who falls asleep in his chair can be reclined and let rest... perfect!

We just picked up the Fisher-Price Healthy Care Booster Seat for $18 at BRU. Bluesuze - thanks for the mention of the Tiny Diner Placemat we grabbed one of those too.

Look for how it reclines. We loved the way ours sat when SP was younger because she didn't sit up really straight anyway, but now when she sits in it she's too reclined. Make sure the back goes all the way straight up and down. We bought one of the boosters that straps to the seat and has its own removable tray for something like $20 at toys are us and we use that more than the high chair now.

1. Please consider getting one that has a plastic/vinyl covering/seat.etc. In the begining your kids will not be so messy with just taking little bites of baby food, but TRUST ME, they will be flinging spaghetti sauce in no time. If you need further proof, just look at the profile picture for this group. Yes, that's my son going to town with a bowl of spaghtti. And yes, they will get food on the back of the chair and on the seat (as well as in their eyes, hair..etc.) We had a more expensive one with a fabric covering, and we had to constantly throw it in the washing machine, and it got faded and looked horrible in no time. With a vinyl one, you just wipe it down, that's it. 2. Lightweight ones are great. Sometimes I just pick it up and walk it to the outside porch and just shake it upside down if it's got tons of crumbs. 3. You don't need an expensive one. In fact, we had a rather expensive one from my inlaws that we hated, and we ended up buying a really cheap one that is lightweight and it works great. 4. If you have a small kitchen, or even if you don't, you might want to consider just buying one of those portable chairs, instead of a highchair. They just strap on to one of your dining room chairs. They work exactly as a highchair would, and take up less space. 4. Some highchairs have a plastic tray that sort of pops off the top of the tray, so that's the only thing that you have to clean. Those are nice and make cleanup easy. Hope this helps :-)

I am! We have the Chicco travel system, a Chicco umbrella stroller, and the Chicco highchair. We wanted the Chicco pack 'n' play, but we had two Gracos given to us by family. I love all the Chicco stuff we've used and would buy it all over again.

I'm at the stage where I'll be getting one soon. I'm thinking more of getting the thing (forget official name) that straps to a chair and not an actual highchair. Linz - I get the feeling you're a Chicco fan! I love the pack n play we have by them.

Look for one that is easy to use and EASY TO CLEAN. Wheels were important for us because we move ours between the kitchen and dining room almost daily. But, if you expect it stay put in one spot, I wouldn't think that would be an issue. We went with the Chicco Polly and have really loved it. I can remove and install the tray and lower or raise the backrest with one hand, and it's a cinch to clean.
