Whiny Butt

Do your kid(s) whine around one parent more than the other?

My son and my husband can be playing for hours on end all fine, happy, no whining, and then I enter the room and he turns into a "whiny butt" as we call it at our house. I just don't get it.

My husband says it's because they just play and he doesn't "baby" him and when I play I'm always interjecting things like "are you hungry" "do you want to do this" "do you need to go potty" and stuff like that. Basically, looking to serve his needs before he has them, so his theory is that the boy whines because I'm not catering to his every need? I don't know if I'm explaining it right.

So hubby says he doesn't do that, he waits for the boy to tell him what he wants or needs and then deals with it, so the boy just plays with him.

Yea I am kinda reaize that when Jordan needs or wants something he will tell me then ask for help. But he demands so much attention that it gets annoying at times.

I have been there with my kids when they were little. My husband has told me the same thing and now I can look back and totally agree with him. Independence is the greatest gift you can give your child. It's okay to mommy him but let him come to you when he is in need instead of trying to meet his needs before he even knows he is in need. IF IT IS JUST ME AND MY 4 YEAR OLD SON HE WHINES A LOT AND I THINK THAT IS BECAUSE I USED TO BABY HIM AND LET HIM HAVE HIS OWN WAY AND NOW I AM TRYING TO TURN THAT AROUND. MY SON IS A PERFECT ANGEL WITH ANYONE AND EVERYONE BUT ME UNLESS MY B/F IS THERE TOO THEN HE JUST GOES INTO HIS ROOM AND PLAYS. I TRY TO LET HIM DO WHAT HE WANTS TO DO I DONT FORCE HIM TO SPEND TIME WITH US IF HE DOES NOT WANT TO. MY SON LOOKS AT MY B/F AS A FATHER HE CALLS HIM DAD AND DOES FATHER SON ACTIVIES WITH HIM TOO. I THINK THAT MAYBE YOUR CHILD IS SHOWING THAT INDEPENCE THING LIKE ALL CHILDREN DO AT SOME POINT MAYBE HE NEEDS SOME ROOM.

My daughter doesn't really whine with either one of us but she sure knows how to wrap her daddy around her little finger......

As it is now, my son equally whines with both of us. It's mostly just when he's tired or wants something that he can't have. I guess it's his age, he hasn't turned 3 yet. PS love your new avatar, rubialala!

Shara Gonzalez I am the same way with my oldest girl...constantly asking about the potty and so on. Though it is the other way around..even though my hubby plays with her more she seems to whine more with him. She tends to get needt and all of a sudden needs him to help her or do things for her. I am really tryingto figure out that one, she is for sure a dady's girl though. We also have a baby girl and maybe she is a little jealous..but she is great to her little sister and helps me and says how much she loves her. I am just not sure.
