Teen Mom's Picture Banned From High School Yearbook

In what Wheatmore High School officials are calling a "final decision," the North Carolina school has banned a yearbook picture submitted by graduating senior Caitlin Tiller because the picture included Tiller's son, Leelin.

In what Wheatmore High School officials are calling a "final decision," the North Carolina school has banned a yearbook picture submitted by graduating senior Caitlin Tiller because the picture included Tiller's son, Leelin.

As WGHP (FOX News) reports below, seniors were invited to include something in their pictures that represents an achievement. While some chose pets or instruments, Tiller was photographed with Leelin. She says that being a mom has motivated her not only to finish high school but to also start college early, all while working 30 hours per week and caring for her son. But her high school is concerned that the image will promote teen pregnancy to others and is printing the yearbook without Tiller's picture.

Do you think kids become teen moms because they see other girls doing it?

Should New Zealand Have Banned These Baby Names?

You can't name your baby whatever you want to in New Zealand — but we're not sure if that's a bad thing!

You can't name your baby whatever you want to in New Zealand — but we're not sure if that's a bad thing! As CNN reports, New Zealand bans baby names using the guidelines that "names must not cause offense to a reasonable person, not be unreasonably long and should not resemble an official title and rank." As a result, in the past 12 years children were spared names such as Lucifer, Justice, King, Princess, Christ, Mafia No Fear, V8, Rogue, 4Real, and *. (Yes, that last name is simply an asterisk sign!)

A truly amazing set of twins in Waterford, Ireland, could break the Guinness World Record for interval between births.

A truly amazing set of twins in Waterford, Ireland, could break the Guinness World Record for interval between births. When her water broke prematurely at 23 weeks, mom Maria Jones-Elliot gave birth to one of the twins, Amy. That was June 1, 2012. Eighty-seven days later, Jones-Elliot's second daughter, Katie, was born.

As detailed on the Huffington Post, Jones-Elliot's 87-day interval, when substantiated by hospital records, will beat out that of the current record holder, Peggy Lynn, by three days. Still, Lynn's twins, born 84 days apart in the mid-'90s, are extraordinary in a different way: their birthdays span two years!

CPS Takes Baby After Parents Seek Second Medical Opinion

In a series of events that would have any new mom confused and distraught, Anna Nikolayev of Sacramento, CA, had her 5-month-old baby taken from her after bringing him to the hospital with flu symptoms.

In a series of events that would have any new mom confused and distraught, Anna Nikolayev of Sacramento, CA, had her 5-month-old baby taken from her after bringing him to the hospital with flu symptoms.

When doctors there began talking about heart surgery the new mom decided it was time to get a second opinion. She and her husband, Alex, took their son to another hospital without first getting a discharge, and were apprehended there by police. Their baby appeared to be fine though, so the officers left him with the Nikolayevs.

The story doesn't end here though; in a tense interaction included in the video below, the police arrived at the Nikolayev home the next day with agents from CPS. This time they forced the couple to give up their son, later explaining in a statement to the press that there are concerns of severe neglect.

What do you think, is it severe neglect or a severe misunderstanding?

5 Signs Your Child's Tonsils Should Be Removed

Today, doctors are very cautious about recommending removal of the tonsils and adenoid because of throat infections. Still, as the American Academy of Pediatrics shares, the following conditions may lead your pediatrician to recommend a tonsillectomy and/or removal of the adenoid.  Breathing problems.

Today, doctors are very cautious about recommending removal of the tonsils and adenoid because of throat infections. Still, as the American Academy of Pediatrics shares, the following conditions may lead your pediatrician to recommend a tonsillectomy and/or removal of the adenoid.

  1. Breathing problems. Swollen tonsils and an enlarged adenoid can cause a variety of breathing problems, including sleep apnea. If your child has sleep apnea, snores loudly, breathes loudly, or breathes mostly through the mouth instead of the nose, then your pediatrician may recommend removing his tonsils and/or adenoid.
  2. Recurring ear or sinus infections. Does your child have frequent sinus or ear infections? A swollen adenoid may be the root of the problem. In this case, your pediatrician may recommend surgery to remove only the adenoid.
  3. Speech distortion. An enlarged adenoid can also alter a child's speech. If your child has a speech distortion, then your pediatrician may check whether the adenoid is enlarged and make recommendations accordingly.
  4. Frequent sore throats or strep throat. While removing the tonsils and adenoid is much less common than it used to be, pediatricians will sometimes recommend these procedures if a child has an excessive number of sore throats and infections such as strep throat. The Academy of Otolaryngology "recommends a cautious approach for children who have had fewer than seven infections during the past year, fewer than five per year over the past two years, and fewer than three annually over the past three years."
  5. Lymph nodes stay swollen. One more sign your child may need surgery is if the lymph nodes underneath the lower jaw remain swollen for at least six months, even with antibiotic treatment.

Breast-Pumping Moms Humiliated While Flying

Have you ever had to pump on an airplane or carry breast-pumping paraphernalia through security?

Have you ever had to pump on an airplane or carry breast-pumping paraphernalia through security? While moms have the right to do both and are even supposed to be provided with privacy when they pump on an airplane, it looks like some airline and TSA personnel are unaware — or not on board.

In one recent violation of regulations, an American Airlines flight attendant monitored mom Dawnella Brahos throughout her flight to prevent her from using the breast pump she was carrying. In another, a TSA worker in Hawaii told mom Amy Strand that she couldn't bring the cooler that came with her pump through security unless she was also carrying breast milk. In order to keep the cooler, which is expensive to replace, Strand resorted to pumping in the airport bathroom, in public.

Although both American Airlines and the TSA have apologized, Christian Science Monitor reporter David Clark Scott advises breastfeeding moms who are traveling to know their rights: "Moms and Dads," he writes, "bookmark the TSA page, and carry it with you on your phone. Just in case."

The Most Jaw-Dropping Tree House We've Ever Seen

Steve and Jeri Wakefield must be the most popular neighbors in Dallas.

Steve and Jeri Wakefield must be the most popular neighbors in Dallas. Nine years ago, the couple had architect James Culver design and build a fantastic tree house in their yard for their grandsons. Replete with storybook details like gables and window seats, and sheltered by a majestic pecan tree, the magical house grew even more fun over the years with new features like a zip line and suspension bridge. Now, as The Huffington Post (via Houzz) reports, the Wakefields' grandsons are too big for their backyard masterpiece. It's by no means neglected, though; the couple simply invites the neighborhood kids over to play.

Talk about inspiring — this 13-year-old quadruple amputee has not only overcome his disability to be able to play his favorite sport, lacrosse, but he is also now helping Boston Marathon victims who have lost limbs.

As reported in the Huffington Post, Michael Stolzenberg was only 8 years old when an abdominal infection led to a quadruple amputation. Despite the odds, the boy survived and didn't let this new challenge stop him, and he is now able to run, play lacrosse, and more.

After hearing that several victims of the Boston Marathon bombings suffered amputations, Michael and his brother Harris decided to help. With their website Mikeysrun.com, they aim to raise $1 million as Harris trains for his first long-distance event: the 2014 Boston Marathon.

This incredibly inspiring story, out of San Jose, CA, illustrates one of the many things we love about having kids: they remind us what's really important in life.

Kenna Reeder recently lost her mom, Robin, to breast cancer. But she somehow knew, as NBC News describes it, the "right recipe for dealing with the loss." As the young captain of a team that will participate in the Cambrian Relay For Life, she has already raised more than $16,000 to fight the disease — more than anyone else.

She and her sister's secret? "They work the hardest and are the cutest," says NBC News reporter Garvin Thomas. And perhaps, as Kenna's grieving father points out in the video below, the girls understand, intuitively, that their efforts matter in more ways than one.

New Jersey School Bans Strapless Dresses at Dance

Parents in Readingtown Township, NJ, are outraged by a recent ban on strapless dresses from the local middle school's upcoming eighth-grade dance.

Parents in Readingtown Township, NJ, are outraged by a recent ban on strapless dresses from the local middle school's upcoming eighth-grade dance. As USA Today reports, in response to objections from parents, many of whom have already purchased strapless dresses for their daughters, Principal Sharon Moffat explained that without straps, dresses sometimes slip down while the wearer is dancing. She also told parents that the style is "distracting" to boys.

One upset mom, Charlotte Nijenhuis, has written to school superintendent Barbara Sargent to complain about the ban in general and about this rationale in particular, "because it suggests that boys are not able to control — or ought not to be required to control — their behavior when in the presence of girls wearing strapless dresses."

Would you buy your daughter a strapless dress for a school dance?
