Conditions in the winter are not kind to skin! Creating good habits and dishing out some extra moisture will keep skin healthy and soft, even during the winter!
5 ways to keep your skin happy this winter:

1. Keep it warm. Hot showers feel good when there is a chill in the air but actually cause moisture loss! Keep your showers warm and short.

2. Be gentle. Dry, flaky skin may have you wanting to aggressively exfoliate. Don’t! Instead, use a gentle touch with a mild exfoliating cleanser once a week to help remove dry skin cells.

3. Cleanse wisely. Skip the soap, it’s too drying! Use a cleanser that helps nourish your skin. Dove Deep Moisture Body Wash leaves skin feeling soft and smooth.

4. Be consistent. Apply a rich moisturizer to damp skin after each shower. This helps create a barrier and traps in your natural moisture

During the ridiculously cold winter months, I always tell my clients that revamping your skincare routine is the key to fantastic looking skin that glows. Even a few minor changes can make a huge difference in your skin, and help protect it from the drying winds, and harsh weather. You can easily maximize the time you spend on your beauty habits by adding these extra products into your daily practice. I am a huge proponent of using products that give you the biggest bang for your buck, and help to keep your skin moisturized, even when you are short on time.

1) Try a dry oil that works on your skin, face, and hair! Argan Oil is the newest beauty craze that has taken the industry by storm, because of its healing qualities, and superb nourishing benefits. This all-in-one elixir does wonders to replenish lost moisture, due to its extremely high levels of Vitamin E . This makes it perfect for healing many skin ailments, such as weather burn, cracked cuticles, rosacea, and more. I even use this oil on my split ends to help restore the luster in my hair. 2) Most people forget about taking the time in the shower to pamper yourself and care for your skin. My number-one tip is to maximize the time you spend in the shower by using a deeply nourishing body wash (that can also double as a shaving cream!). The heat and steam of the shower make it the perfect time to relax and hydrate those dry areas on our bodies that go neglected. Utilize a loofah, or sponge, and lather up with a skin softening body cleanser. My product choice is Dove Nutrium Deep Moisture Body Wash.

The winter blahs…less daylight, the depression of a lifeless landscape, the bitter cold; winter is my least favorite season of the year. One of my biggest issues in winter? Dry skin. While turning up the thermostat may keep you warm, it also depletes the air of moisture and dehydrates your skin. So aside from the no-brainer of using a daily body lotion, what else can you do to prevent dull, dry, flaky skin?

Go to your first line of defense: your shower. Make sure to keep the door shut while showering to trap in the steam. While a hot shower can dehydrate your skin, the moisture in the air will help combat this. Next: your body wash. Be sure to use a body wash that is low on lather but high in moisturizing ingredients, like Dove’s Deep Moisture Body Wash. 1. Skip The Hot Shower I know…I love them too but I visited a dermatologist once who told me I was sabotaging myself with my hot showers.

2. Ease Up on the Exfoliation While exfoliation is necessary for proper cell turnover, in the winter too much of it can cause your skin to become drier. Limit yourself to once a month.

3. Use a Heavier Moisturizer Your facial skin care routine changes with the seasons, your body should be no different. Look for something with avocado, almond or shea as these are the healthier non clogging oils.

When it comes to keeping color-treated hair looking healthy, what are your best tips?
