It's January, and although where most of us live it's especially cold and dreary, in the world of nail color, it means just one thing: resort collections. That's right, this month marks the debut of bright, bold polishes meant as an escape from the Northern Hemisphere chill. So crank your heater up, grab a mai tai, and get ready for some sweet, cheerful relief in every shade from neon orange to Chanel's latest, prettiest pink.

Sweet as May
Chanel is always a leader when it comes to of-the-moment color, so it's no surprise that the brand's new shade, May ($26), is about as pretty as it gets. If you've been wanting to buy a hot Chanel hue for a while but didn't like all the greiges and off-tones from this past season, this pink polish is a perfect, versatile alternative.
Uh Oh, We're in Bubble
For unadulterated fabulousness, Deborah Lippmann is well-nigh impossible to beat. Her newest shade, Candy Shop ($18), is everything you'd expect from the Fashion Week staple and then some. It's also the color of animal cookie icing mixed with rainbow glitter. There's no way to get stuck in the January doldrums when you have this stuff on.
Dior has arrived to make scented nail polish fancy and sophisticated. Its gorgeous milk glass-hued Waterlily polish ($23) smells like roses, and will keep your nails looking fashion-forward for many months ahead.
No trip to St. Barts in your immediate future? Us neither, but our nails can still go on a fancy holiday. For ultraviolet neon that's unmistakably from the newest resort collections, the new Le Métier de Beauté Jet Set collection ($18 a piece) is hard to beat, and excellent for getting second glances. Coming to Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman this month.
Everyone should have a nice red polish or two, and Portobello ($16), one of Nails Inc.'s newest shades, is a stunner. It's a really lovely, wearable shade that also manages to be on top of the neon trend; you'll find yourself wearing it long after resort season is over.
Pearlescent color is on the verge of becoming a big trend, so if you'd like to get a jump-start (and also just have really pretty nails) Butter London 's latest, Knackered ($14), is an excellent choice. The brand also gets extra points for its use of homophones with the whole "knacker" and "nacre" (another word for mother of pearl) thing.
Publish My Love
Are you crazy in love? Just can't wait for Valentine's Day? Well, you can get an early start with these cute Love Always ($10) nail appliques from Sally Hansen 's limited-edition Valentine's print collection. There are also cute hearts and pattered designs, so it's worth checking out the entire collection.
I've Been Saved
OPI and Nicki Minaj have teamed up for a line of polishes that are just as simultaneously audacious and girly as Nicki herself. Our pick of the bunch is Save Me ($10), which is brimming with holographic glitter strips and works over just about any polish shade.
I'm Not Your Baby Glitter
What's cheap, chic, and chock full of glitter? This cute Forever 21 nail polish ($3). The multiglitter in this one also means that is looks just as seasonally appropriate now as it will on the Fourth of July.
That's a Bit of a Peach, Don't You Think?
Orange is Pantone 's color of the year, but if neon-tangerine polish isn't your idea of a wearable color, don't fret. This opaque, creamy peach shade from NCLA ($16) is a great way to do the trend without sacrificing your personal aesthetics.
