The 5 Most Outrageous Beauty Moments From Fall 2011 Paris Fashion Week

John Galliano's horrific antisemetic tirade may take the cake for most outrageous moment of, well, any fashion week — ever. But there were still plenty of other cray-cray things that happened in Paris this week — of the beauty variety — that made us do a double take. See the five favorites when you keep reading.

  1. Lipstick fake out. Just because you saw photos on the web of models at Yves Saint Laurent wearing a vampy, purple-black lipstick doesn't mean they walked the runway that way. Just minutes before the ladies hit the catwalk, makeup artist Pat McGrath yelled, "Take it off!" and made a switch, re-doing the models' lips by wiping off the old shade, covering their wine-stained lips with concealer, and applying a peach-beige color for a "sexy, beautiful, serene lip," she said. "The face needed to be more open and sexy." Nice speed painting, Pat!
  2. Hair-clip helmets. The Alexander McQueen collection may be about high fashion at its best, but this season all that shmance was balanced out with good ol' drugstore barrettes from Goody. The models' hair was covered in the simple, long and skinny clips — some all black, others all silver, as shown above. (They were the same ones used at Prada this season!)
  3. Sideburns — on women. In other news at Prada, Guido created a low, sleek ponytail (sounds pretty, right. . . ) — with long sideburns jutting out in front of the models' ears. (He actually cut the models' hair backstage!) Guido explained, "It's chic, because it's boyish." Hmmm...
  4. Hair: Your secret weapon? No, we're not talking about using a sexy head toss to get the attention of a guy... Hairstylist Eugene Souleiman flat-ironed the models' hair at Haider Ackermann to literally resemble a saber.
  5. Bug-inspired beauty. At Zac Posen, the makeup artist fessed up that the inspiration for the look was the shiny armored backs of beetles—you know, the insects? Ew, but also ahhh — the bronze-flecked teal blue eye makeup was gorgeous.
