ohh yeah. In Argentina the temperature control didn't work without a converter. The iron just kept getting hotter and hotter the longer it was plugged in! I ended up burning a piece of my hair before I figured out what was going on! Really, now I have a chunk of hair that is literally fried - coarse, kinky, and dry. Be careful!

Great ideas - you forgot to mention the importance of a converter and travel adapter. I took only the travel adapter, but not the converter with me when I went to Italy and fried my flat iron the first day I was there. I was horrified and spent the rest of my vacay with my icky frizzy hair wrapped up under a scarf.
