Those of us old enough to remember the '90s can recall the brown lipsticks and smudged shadow of the decade past. So when we spotted Jessica Stam sporting her grungy lipstick and neutral shadow at the American Ballet Theatre 2013 opening night Fall gala last night, it was right on par with an acid flashback. The model stuck with neutral tones around her eyes and accented the look with some shimmer and a flick of a cat eye. Her lips were reminiscent of '90s grunge, with a berry tone, but seriously smudged and worn down.
Jessica is actually right on trend for the Fall. These grunge-inspired looks were seen all over the Fall 2013 runways, including at 3.1 Phillip Lim (above left). But the real source of inspiration are our favorite '90s stars, like Alicia Silverstone. With her purple shadow, smudged liner, and shimmery mauve lip gloss, she completely epitomized the over-the-top neutral shades of that decade. LL Cool J might not have wanted to call it a comeback, but we do . . . and we're embracing it with open arms. You too? Then shop the look below!
