Alicia Silverstone Is Launching Eco Bags and Brushes

Alicia Silverstone has long been an environmental activist, working to support PETA, and a vegan lifestyle. (Her new book, The Kind Diet, which focuses on veganism, hits stores in a couple of months.) Now, the actress is slated to launch an eco-friendly line of makeup brushes and bags for EcoTools this December. The collection features designs of lavender, thyme, rose, and chrysanthemum — all favorites of Alicia's. The bags are made with natural hemp and recycled linings. "I only wanted to do something that hadn’t been done before. This is a conscious product line that is good for the planet," she told WWD. "Unless you need it, it’s just stuff," she added. Along with a five-piece brush set and bag ($16), Alicia's beauty tools, which will be sold in drugstores, will also feature a cosmetic bag ($9); a cosmetics brush bag ($13); a train case ($15); and an overnight bag ($20).

I can get eco-friendly make-up brushes at my local drugstore, and they have reusable bags with them, in no packaging. So I don't think I will be buying this line.

Geez. Look at all that PACKAGING!!! I wonder just how "IN" Silverstone is on this project!!?? The price is right, but should be next to NO packaging. And please - solid color or simple, natural, hemp. No color needed. She's looking like an environmental activist launching a new line with a carbon footprint problem. Come on now.

I might be the only one, but I think these are kind of cute. But I agree, as a vegetarian, I often feel embarrassed by Peta's actions -- sea kittens? wtf?

Something about this person pisses me off. I do not like her, or her ugly bags.

I love the eco-friendly concept, but these bags are ugly.

Hmmm... I'm wondering how much is used for all the packaging (which will probably be thrown away) AND how much gas will be needed for shipping all of these Eco-green-friendly products... this only makes her carbon foot-print bigger. She should've donated a huge chunk of money to the WWF or OxFam instead.
