The Anti-Wrinkle Pizza

From the "they'll eat this up" files: A pizza from Southern Italy is said to be an anti-wrinkle pizza. The Associated Press reports that the "primula" pizza has three times the amount of fiber found in a classic pizza, along with more magnesium and iron. It's also laden with antioxidant-rich ingredients such as tomatoes, arugula, garlic, zuchinni, basil, mushrooms, carrots and spinach. And here's an odd endorsement: Apparently Pope Benedict XVI loves the stuff.

But does it work? Well, we already know that fiber is healthy (FitSugar just told me that it radically reduces your risk of breast cancer). And you don't need to be YumSugar to know that pizza is tasty, which makes you happy, which reduces stress.... But wrinkle-preventing? I don't know about that. A diet rich in antioxidants certainly is healthy, but to keep lines away, your best bet is to stay out of the sun.

If nothing else, it'll certainly give you a load of very healthy vegetable servings.

I'll give it a try, but seriously? I think this should be filed into that too good to be true pile!

I agree with rosey that antioxidants (blueberries, dark green veggies, etc.) help prevent wrinkles. Plus, don't forget to moisturize every day! I do want to say though, if this pizza does actually work like they say...meraviglioso!!

I'm not a scientist but I believe the benefit of antioxidants in preventing wrinkles goes something like this: antioxidants neautralise free radicals in the body. This helps to prevent wrinkles because free radicals attack the skin's naturally occurring collagen (amonst other things) which accelerates ageing process. I agree that staying out of the sun is one of the most important things to prevent wrinkles. I think a healthy diet that includes plenty of fresh fruit and vegies will inadvertantly help you age better, but that should be your whole diet, not just a certain pizza! The pizza does look yummy though, hehehe. :)

I'm guessing it would do more good to put some of the ingredients ON your face than it would to eat them! Ha-ha. I agree w/ vienvien about the carbs and love the salad idea! Omega's are not only good good for your skin, but also your heart, etc.

I think there's a certain truth that foods rich in anti-oxidants really prevent wrinkles. I'm just skeptic about the "dough" of the pizza because I think too much "carbs" from the dough are fattening which people who are on a diet try to evade. I have learned that if these ingredients found in the pizza are tossed in a salad mixed w/ a little bit of olive oil, it would be much better. Another anti-wrinkle diet that Dr. NV Perricone (of N.V. Pericone Skincare) recommends is having a diet filled with omega 3 fatty acids mostly from fish ----the no. is salmon. Try to read his book about this. A lot of medical journals have already attested to this omega 3 fatty acid diet that can help smooth the skin and keep wrinkles at bay.
