There are plenty of wearable looks coming from New York Fashion Week, but leave it to Badgley Mischka to deliver some serious glamour, from hair to makeup to nails; the designers turned to the Hitchcock ladies for a classic beauty inspiration. Peter Gray, on hair, worked a fun shape into a classic updo, while Tom Pecheux for MAC created a stunning makeup look that focused on a bold matte lip. And Deborah Lippmann was backstage showing off her collection of silk-inspired polishes that dry matte: one of the biggest nail trends this season.
The look: A classic updo with bold red lips and nails
The inspiration: Hitchcock
Who would wear it: The socialite hopping from one holiday party to the next
Color scheme: Technicolor
Trends: Rich polish with a matte finish
Tom Pecheux for MAC created the glamorous makeup. Inspired by Alfred Hitchcock, he wanted to use a technicolor-inspired palette.
To get the technicolor effect, he used a bronze-gold liner on the top lids to create an exaggerated cat eye, followed by a matte pale blue on the lower lash line. For the lips, he used a red-orange pencil layered with a pink lipstick to mattify and soften the vibrancy of the pencil.
"It's Badgley Mischka, so we're dressing hair," said lead stylist Peter Gray for Moroccanoil. The braided updo was inspired by Kim Novak from The Birds.
The back was braided to add an element of fun, while the top of the head was set in barrel curls for a more classic look.
Once the curls were set, they were combed out and wrapped into a classic chignon shape for the Kim Novak look.
Deborah Lippmann debuted one of the shades from her new Holiday 2013 collection, Red Silk Boxers. The red metallic shade dries matte for a silk-like finish that added to the feeling of luxury.
