Beauty Blooper: Eye've Really Done It This Time

Beauty Blooper: Eye've Really Done It This Time

I can't believe what happened to me last week when I was innocently getting all gussied up for a big night out on the town. As a finishing touch to my fabulous mod makeup look, I decided to make my first attempt at applying false eyelashes. I read the instructions that came with my cute mini falsies kit, applied the glue and then began to attach the fake lashes with the help of a tweezer.

I was prepared to fumble my first time around, but boy, I completely dropped the ball. I put on way too much glue and the lashes wouldn't stick. As I was trying to press one end to my lid, the other end fell right into my eye. Not only did glue get inside, but the falsies were prickly and my eye began to water. I was blinking profusely yet still trying to keep my makeup intact, but when I looked up, my perfect black liner was badly smudged. So much for mod—I'd gone goth.

My eyes eventually stopped stinging and I did my best to re-apply the lashes, but I wish someone had told me to try them on a bare face first! I'll never make that mistake again. Interesting...I think my lashes are pretty long so I've never felt compelled to try them, but even after your little disaster Bella, I've gotten intrigued. Maybe I'll try some for x-mas or new year's!

i love my fake lashes~ being that i've worn them for a few yrs now, i can put them on in under a min :] just takes practice! and honestly, it's a lot less time consuming than putting on 5 coats of mascara.. just let the glue dry on the lashes for a min before putting them on so that they're extra gooey!

My trick is to blow on the glue and let it dry a bit until it is a bit sticky before putting them on.

false lashes are mans greatest invention. great if your trying to grow ur own lashes, and they make you look a million $ even if your wearing next to nothing of makeup. but you need to be good at it so obvs you need to pratice hun lol. its a skill that takes along time to perfect. im lucky enough ive had it perfected for along time. im always the one who looks the best on a night out. ;)

I can't be bothered with false lashes. I get eyelash extensions instead and they last for up to 8 weeks.

Aw poor Bella!! I remember it being pretty difficult the 1st couple of times I wore falsies too, but it does get easier with practice. In my opinion, things like tweezers and lash applicators just get in the way and obscure my vision so I can't see where the lash is going. Like fleurfairy, I can't press the whole thing down at once, but I start on the outer corner cuz I don't wear a full set that goes all the way across. And make sure you have your upper lid lined well with liner so you don't have to go back and touch it up once the lashes are in place. If you do have to go back, be careful because that's another opportunity to screw up those lashes! ;)

LOL. I have had a variety of experiences w. false eyelashes, but mostly from being in costume for performances. Here's how a professional makeup artist taught me to put them on: Make a fist and put a small dot of glue on your hand (any place with a nice curve...inside of your index finger knuckle, perhaps...below your thumb?). Then take the lash and run the band over the glue. You'll now have the perfect bead of glue on the lash (if you have too much glue, you've dunked the lash too far into the glue). Let it tack up and apply close to the lash line. Then take an instrument of choice (v. the whole tube) and put a dot of glue at each end. Wait to dry and you are done! Of course, make sure you have an actual tube of latex glue (not the crappy one that come with a lot of drugstore lashes)...always in clear. Also, make sure to take off all the old latex when you take them off at night.

my worst beauty blunder was the first time i used an eyelash curler. i was probably 14 and didn't know what the hell i was doing. i had just put on some hand lotion and crimped down hard on the eyelash curler... then, i proceeded to rip out several lashes. it hurt like hell and looked crazy. at least they grew back!!

Ahh... the false eyelashes. Love them -- once you get them on! My sister-in-law did my makeup for my wedding and glued my eye shut at one point! That was a near disaster (a little prying and I was good to go again). I just purchased this lash placement kit from Sephora. Hopefully, it will help get them right every time - I still need to try it out. http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P130229&categoryId=B70

I had to put alot of false eyelashes on in my ballerina days. Once you do it a few times, it's easier. I always start on the inside corner of the eye. And press along the lash line until you get to the outside corner. Never try to press the whole thing on at the same time.

My trick is to squirt some glue onto something (like the thign the lashes came in) and then use a toothpick to pick some glue up and put on the lashes. Then I carefully line the lashes up on my eye and press them with another toothpick. I find it works great and I usualyl have no trouble :)
