BellaSugar's Top Five Cream Eye Shadow Picks

BellaSugar's Top Five Cream Eye Shadow Picks

The invention of cream eye shadows has had a time-saving impact on my life. Not only are they easy to apply (you don't even need to use a brush), but depending on the color, they can also double as a highlighter. They're a cinch to travel with since they can't spill, and they typically dry to a nice, powdery finish. You used to have to tend to the creases every few hours, but now they've evolved into long-wearing, crease-free, stay-put-all-day formulas that hardly require any maintenance at all! Below are my top choices for cream eye shadows; what are yours?

  • Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow ($19) has a light and creamy consistency that dries to a silky texture within 30 seconds. My favorite color is RSVP, a versatile, pale shimmery pinky-champagne that looks great alone for daytime and as a highlighter in the evening.
  • Lola Cosmetics SocialEyes Gel Eye Colour ($20) are creamy, waterproof shadows that can be worn as eyeliners too. They have medium pigmentation so they can be layered together or worn alone. My color of choice is a pale green patina called Tahiti.
  • Just for Redheads Dream Eye Shadow Flavors (on sale for $18) are some of the best blending cream shadows I've ever used. A little bit goes a long way to create shimmery, and rich velvety soft color. The must-have color to seek out is Souffle, a taupey, purplish-brown that looks amazing on all skin tones.
  • Laura Mercier Metallic Crème Eye Colour ($22) is a waterproof, sheer and non-creasing cream shadow. My favorite color of the bunch is Rose Gold, a shimmery pinky brown that looks great alone, or blended with a deep brown or purple in the crease.
  • Nars Cream Eye Shadow ($21) has a soft cream-to-powder texture that dries quickly and blends easily. My favorite shade is Swing, a deep dark purple that looks great as a lid and crease shadow or as a liner.

I love Revlon cream shadows, cheap and the color selection is wonderful; just wear a base (like UDPP or L'Oreal De-Crease) and the color will last.I would like to try the shadows by LM and Benefit; Clinque also has some lovely colors.

rachi99: Thanks for the tips! Can you please recommend a brush? I use one by Clinique. I also have a couple by Rimmel & Avon which crease horribly. I just purchased the Too Faced Shadow Insurance today so i'm really hoping that helps. I'd like to try some of the cream shadows by Benefit.

Shiseido makes an AMAZING cream e/s. I can't get enough of it! It's called Hydro-Powder or something along those lines. I have it on every single day, on it's own or as a base to intensify powder e/s. I only have it in two colours, but I'm stocking up on some more on my next trip to Sephora. I really wanna try the Benefit ones too, I know they're discontinuing a few of the colours, so hopefully I'll get my hands on some before they're gone.

Lately I have been totally obsessed with the Benefit creaseless shadow. I'm pretty hopeless when it comes to applying eye makeup, and I hate taking the extra time to do it. This stuff is dummy proof; I just smudge it on with my finger and go, and it stays put all day. I know I sound like a commercial.

I think Nars cream shadows are essential! My fave is Zardoz, the matte black shade. I prep my lids with concealer then loose powder then apply the cream shadows with my concealer brush only up to the bridge of the eye. No matter what color I put over it it gives it the smoke and intensity that I love. The trick with creams is all in the application. My obsession right now is Zardoz with Smashbox's new (powder) shadow Obsidian over it. Love it!!!!Laura's are great too!

Clinique touchtints! I use the gold every day, either alone or as a base for powder shadows.

I've used both the Laura Mercier and the Benefit (among others, like the Revlon, which was such a nightmare in creasing we just won't discuss it). I have had good results with these two cream shadows. My advice: don't put them on "unprimed" lids and don't use your fingers (they also have natural oils, remember). Eyelid primer + appropriate brush (synthetic fibers designed for cream formulas + a light touch = for me, a lovely sheer wash of color that doesn't crease on my (admittedly oily) eyelids! Cream shadows also make a great sheet base for a more pigmented powder...

I have issues with cream makeup on my eyes. It always creases on me and it always disappears after a few hours. I only really ever use cream shadows as a highlighter.

I'm not a huge fan of cream makeup for eyes or cheeks - I find that it creases and is hard to blend properly, and with cheeks, it messes up whatever foundation/powder is already on my face. So I mostly stick with powders...

I love cream shadow and I use it more often than powders these days...my favorite is the Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liner that you featured above. I have it in several shades and I use one almost everyday. Love it.

I HATE cream makeup!!! Especially eyeshadow and blush. They are so hard to put on, even with a brush or my finger.
