Best Hand Creams

BellaSugar's Top Five Hand Cream Picks

I'm a hand cream junkie, so it is with great pleasure and conviction that I present my top five favorites to you. Over the past year, I've tested many a cream in search of my favorite, and I have two. The first is June Jacobs Green Tea and Cucumber Hand Cream ($46) because of its quick rate of absorbency, non-greasy feeling and soothing scent.

The second is L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream ($25) because of its rich, thick texture and unparalleled soothing results. If there's one thing I've learned from my experiences, it's that the key to a good hand cream is shea butter, and the higher the content, the better. Below are three runners-up that I use regularly to soothe dry, chapped hands. What's your all-time favorite hand cream?

  • Kiehl's Unusually Rich — But Not Greasy At All — Hand Cream with SPF 10 ($15.50) takes the cake when it comes to consistency since it's not too thick and not too runny. It's also not greasy whatsoever and it's a great sports cream since it contains SPF 10.
  • Liz Earle Hand Repair ($28.50) smells like heaven and works wonders on dry cuticles. A little goes a long way, and there's also a travel tube available for $8.
  • Yu-Be Cream ($15) is a high quality Japanese yellow-tinted hand cream that moisturizes on a healing level. I highly recommend this fast-absorbing lotion — if you can handle the strong camphor scent.

I love Aveda Hand Relief, even though it is ridiculously overpriced. It's still the best hand cream I've ever used. At home, I just use my regular body lotion for my hands.

I like Sally Hansen AGE CORRECT w/RETINOL - it's a good handcream for overnight - smells good with grapeseed oil - not to greasy - and affordable. I love shea butter products for hands - but they are so expensive it's hard to use them every night...

It's not really hand cream, but I love Palmer's Cocoa Butter Concentrated Cream - so smooth and smells so yummy!

jadoremondieu, i'm a faithful Neutrogena fan too, i use their Anti-Ageing one on the summer, because of the sun protection, my hands really get burnt by the sun. but because the original formula lasts ages i keep one at my desk, one in my bag and another at home. i also have Crabtree and Evelyn La Source but use it occasionally as it is too scented for my liking.

I'm a hand-cream junkie too, after having been on Roaccutane years ago; my hands have never been the same again! I'm going to go and get the L'Occitane one now on everybody's recommendations. I have always tried different things but come back to the good old Neutrogena Norwegian Formula. I've just tried their Anti-Ageing formula - at 26, I have super-wrinkly hands - but it's not as good as the classic formula. I love it because it actually works, is non-greasy and doesn't smell like anything in particular, and is cheap enough for constant (every hour, at a minimum) re-application =)

I would also recommend "look ma, new hands" with paraffin. I get it at Bath and Body Works.

Eucerin and Aveeno have always been my choice especially since Aveeno has SPF in it now. There are much better and inexpensive ones out there. These are a splurge!

I use L'Occitane's every night and would like to try Kiehl's for daytime. I wish you could get the June Jacob's one at Sephora, I'd like to smell it first before buying.

L'Occitane- so luscious! But, drugstore brands work just as well for me. :) Expensive hand cream is a nice, occasional splurge.

I agree with MindayH, there are a lot of inexpensive options out there that are just as good as the more expensive choices. I used L'Occitane for a long time but with this economy I've switched over to Eucerin and it really is great stuff.
