Best Mascara: BellaSugar's Top Five Picks

BellaSugar's Top Five Mascara Picks

Over the past year, I've talked in great detail about many different types of volumizing, lengthening, curling, separating, and glossing mascaras. There's even a new one from Besame that smells just like gingerbread. I've tried them all, and while most of them are great at the beginning, I find that they generally don't live up to the hype about remaining clump and flake-free for more than a month.

That's why I'm partial to these five mascaras. I know that I can always turn to them to separate, define, and darken my lashes and make them look flirty and fluttery in the most natural-yet-enhanced possible way. What's your tried and true mascara?

  • Lancome Courbe Virtuose ($23) helps gives lashes that extra curl they need to look longer and sexier. The brush is amazing, it never clumps, and the color isn't too light nor too dark.
  • Lash Blast by Cover Girl ($6.99) is awesome. It's inexpensive and it effectively gives you a sexy, false-lash look.
  • The Balm Two-Timer ($19) is great because you can use the fine brush for a natural daytime look and the thick brush for a dramatic, curled, and elongated evening look.
  • Mirenesse Secret Weapon ($27, but deals abound) separates and lengthens lashes like crazy. It doesn't look too over-the-top, and although it stays all day, it comes off with just a bit of warm water.
  • Beauty Addicts Lash Galore ($22) is silky, rich, conditioning, and volumizing. It creates full, separated, long lashes with a touch of glamorous shine.

I'll have to try that Cover Girl one. I use diorshow too, and am looking for something cheaper

I highly recommend Maybelline Define-a-Lash. I've gone through so many mascaras, and this was the best for me b/c it made my lashes longer but they stayed soft so that was nice. Diorshow is also good too.

I tried Lash Blast because it's ORANGE and Drew looked fab in the commercials...I was not impressed. It just wasn't doing it for me and I went back to my fav drug store mascara L'Oreal's Voluminous. It does wonders for my eyes so I'm sticking with it. I also like Benefit's Bad Gal Lash. From the other comments posted, I'm going to have to get me some DiorShow next.

Can anyone recommend a mascara very sensitive eyes? Currently in using Neutrogena masacara, but I'm not to crazy about it. I would like that fakey lash look, but the masacara has to cater to sensitiv eyes. Oh, it has to been one of the 'less expensive' brand, know what I mean? ;)

Lash Blast is the best drug store mascara I have tried. I also really like Origins (the one in the green tube, can't remember the name).

Hi Ladies, I have short and fine eyelashes, so I tried the diorshow and all it made me look like was Carrie...the Stephen King movie and in a bad way...Carrie. So...I decided to try a drugstore brand too, and found a new favorite. I like the Almay One Coat Nourishing Mascara in blackest black. It coats my puny lashes and makes them stand out longer and stronger without gooping me up. The reason I think this mascara works is that it has a 3 in 1 brush, and the formula has a long lasting non-flaking consistency. Give it a try~

been using my "free with purchase" lancome mascara for a while now. Works well for definition but does flake off if I touch my eye.

I have naturally VERRRRRY long lashes, and Lash Blast made them look fake, it was so fun! however, the actual formula of the makeup irritated my eyes somewhat, but I still love. I switched back to my Dior mascara but use the Lash Blast brush (washed!) as a comb to separate -- perfection!

Oops, I meant the tube doesn't last that long. Voluminous wears very well on my lashes. And they do make a waterproof version.

uptown_girl, I have tried a million mascaras and ALWAYS go back to Voluminous. Only complaint is that it doesn't last that long, but you can often catch it on sale for a great price.
