Oh, I was thinking Amelie too! And also Cameron Diaz in There's Something About Mary for a good '90s one. Oh god, the '90s. . . there's Gwyneth in Sliding Doors and Winona in Reality Bites. The '90s movies were all about the short cuts.

I second Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday. Not only was it one of the first pixies to hit the big screen, it was also a critical part of her character letting loose.

Leslie, I was just going to add Jean Seberg in Breathless! I got obsessed with that haircut after seeing the film as a kid!

Totally agree, though I think her haircut in that movie was inspired by Jean Seberg in Breathless and Joan of Arc

My vote's for Debbie Harry in Hairspray... the big jumbo shrimp on its side 'do, not as much the bomb-filled autoshow beehive (although that one's pretty classic too lol)

Good ideas! Another just popped into my head: Mia Farrow in Rosemary's Baby. Maybe I shoulda made a longer list!

Nice list! some additions: Bettie Page, though her films weren't movies per se (burlesque film reels), it's THE hairstyle for the vintagely correct Edie Sedgewick- Warhol's films are too arty to be mainstream, but everyone knows her cut Meg Ryan- Addicted to Love: the Sally Hershberger shaggy bob that launched a thousand soccer moms
