feathered hair, a DIY duchess and baby botox? 2011 was a huge year in beauty and we're here to share the biggest stories with you. The biggest event of the year, of course, was the royal wedding. Millions of people tuned in to watch Kate Middleton as she became duchess to her Prince William. We loved her gorgeous hair which took 4 hours to create, but she did her makeup herself. And as for that manicure? Custom blended, totally fit for a royal affair. Back on this side of the pond, everyone from Kesha to Kate Bosworth works on putting feathers in their hair. This is a huge trend this summer spotted all around music festivals, but there was one group that was not too happy about it. Fly fishers, they'd go the store to get their bait, but was sold out because women were buying the feathers to put in their hair. Without a doubt, the beauty item of the year was nail polish. Believe it or not, sales were up fifty-nine percent this year compared to last year and that's because of nail art in bold colors making a great adorable accessory that anyone can wear. Magnetic and crackle polishes were big this year and Serena Williams and Katy Perry were some of the people with their very own nail polish line. Speaking of nails, J Crew is in the news this year because creative director Jenna Lyons sent out a picture of her painting her little boy's toenails pink. We thought it was so cute, but some people didn't agree and there was a lot of pearl clutching over this. Shockingly, the world did not end. And on another kiddie note, a Bay Area woman named Carrie Campbell claimed to be administering botox to her eight year old daughter. Now we thought this sounded a little fishy, and it turns out we were right. It was a hoax she was paid two hundred dollars to sell her fake story to a British tabloid, but in good news, her daughter turns out to be one hundred percent botox free. The hair straightening controversy that started last year continued into 2011. Everyone wanted smooth, shiny hair. But at what cost? Well the DEA sent the makers of Brazilian blowout a letter basically saying hey you say you are fermaldahide hide free but guess what we found, fermaldahide. Right now consumers are confused and a lot of people are just learning to love their styling irons. Be safe. This year we had to say goodbye to some women who were beauty icons. Elizabeth Taylor, known for her beautiful violet eyes and her huge fragrance empire, sadly passed away. Also, we were so sad to see Amy Winehouse died, too young. And Evelyn Lauder, who helped so many women with her breast cancer initiative, sadly passed away this year too. It was another blockbuster year for celebrity set, with Rihanna, Dita Von Teese, Taylor Swift, Heidi Klum, even Snooki launching their own fragrances. The star who did best this year with his fragrance with none other than Justin Bieber. He shattered sales records with "Someday", his first fragrance, we're talking three million dollars in three weeks at one Macy's, if you can believe that and all of his proceeds went to charity, which we love. Now some people raised a stink when they saw his "Someday" bottle, saying it looked a lot like the "Lola" bottle from Marc Jacobs. Marc Jacobs said he considered a lawsuit, but decided to let it go, which is probably a good thing because he had his hands full with his own drama. The fragrance ad starring Dakota Fanning was banned in the U.K. for looking too sexually suggestive. Too cute? Too sexy? You be the judge. That wraps it up for two thousand eleven and as for two thousand twelve, well you'll have to stay tuned. Thanks for watching BellaSugar TV
