Black Lipstick Trend at Fall 2008 London Fashion Week

Trend Alert: Goth Lips at London Fashion Week

At London Fashion Week, I noticed a couple of outlandish beauty trends such as crimped hair and modern cornrow braids. But what I remember most vividly from my backstage access was the look of goth lips.

Designers like Julian MacConald, Nathan Jenden, Ossie Clark and Inbar Spector all chose a midnight lip to reflect a chic and distinguishable edge. I'm not a big fan of morbid makeup, but it definitely has shock value on the runway. Would you ever wear blood-colored lipstick?

I have an OPI lipstick that's a deep, deep matte burgundy and it looks REALLY stunning on an almost-blank face. Like, perfect skin, but just mascara on the eyes. It takes a lottt of balls to wear it out and I can only do it on special occasions, but I love the look of it.

It looks good (sometimes) on the Fashion runway, Fashion photo shoots or ads or in Music videos... But in "real" life, I don't think so.

I'm not a fan of this look, to be honest. I'd probably only ever wear makeup like this for Halloween.

we wont discuss flutters dark makeup days.....anyhoo i really like this on the runway and it makes me hopeful that we are getting back to real makeup instead of barely there.

That was cool in the 90's for a while. I had that color, but I wasn't allowed to wear it to school. :rotfl:

Ooooh! I wish I had enough moxie to sport a blood-red mouth. When it's done well, I really admire it as a look.

What a beautiful face shape on model #2 with the gold mask. *sigh* I'd love to look like that. :\

Actually I kind of like the look at these girls now for me no way but it looks cool.

I like cornrows and am always happy to see them, especially on the runways. I should have said they're unusual on the runways — I'll be more precise with my words next time. :)

Are you saying that cornrows are "outlandish"?
