When creating Blake Lively's look for the 2011 MTV Movie Awards, celebrity stylist Rod Ortega wanted to do something appropriate for the warm-weathered season: a long, sleek ponytail. "It is a fresh, chic style; a staple suitable to any occasion, from the red carpet to the beaches of Saint-Tropez," Ortega said. So to find out how to get Blake's sophisticated ponytail in just a few steps, keep reading.
He started by prepping Blake's wet hair with Shu Uemura Essence Absolue oil, mixed with the brand's Depsea Smoothing Foundation mist, to give shine and softness.
Next, he blew her hair out straight with the T3 Featherweight Luxe (Blake's favorite) and a paddle brush. Once the hair was dry, Ortega used the paddle brush to smooth the hair back into a ponytail.
To finish, he used the T3 Single Pass straightening and styling iron to flat iron the ends, smoothing the entire look with Shu Uemura Silk Mesh. To set, Ortega spritzed on the brand's Sheer Lacquer to Blake's strands.
