Burberry Makeup: Brit Brand to Launch Cosmetics Line

Burberry to Launch Its Own Cosmetics Line

If you already love your Burberry trench, scarf, bikini, and handbag, get ready to add makeup to your collection, because WWD is reporting that the company has just announced the colors for its cosmetics line, which is slated to arrive in July 2010. Philippe Benacin, chairman and managing director of Inter Parfums SA, says the collection will be "a complete color line with about 100 references for eyes, lips, and skin" and will be carried at Nordstrom. My question is, though, how will Burberry create makeup that's any better than what a company that specializes in the products does? I assume they'll be using colors that hearken back to the brand's heritage, like Burberry tan, but are you interested in having your eye shadow match your knockoff? With Emma Watson currently the line's face, it seems as though the brand is making a grab for younger buyers, which means less-expensive products like makeup. Hopefully they'll try to bring quality and design to the table as well.

I'm like leslievan - I've seen clothing lines try and make makeup and it not working out. I remember the Calvin Klein line (it was not the greatest). So I'm a little dubious about this.

They have perfume, so maybe makeup will work for the line as well? I'd have to see what they come out with before I get too excited.

I don't know how I feel about this. It would be great if there was something in the line that is completely knock out wonderful but if it's just a rehash of overpriced shadows and a couple mascara's count me out. I'd rather have makeup from a company that deals solely in makeup then from a clothes line.

There are too many makeup brands and less really good products in quality and variety. I can count with my fingers my HGs

Yeah I agree with leslievan. It was also true with like Rock and Republic I think. Well at least I see it on sale on Neiman Marcus Online. I think they shouldn't price it too high because only Dior and Chanel can truly get away with that...

Armani seems to be the only fashion line that has started a cosmetics line and has really been able to succeed. Paul & Joe is still kinda kicking around. Chanel and Dior were started way before my time, but I've seen lines from Calvin Klein, Benetton, DVF, Tommy Hilfiger and Versace either crash and burn, or limp towards it's demise
