It was an unlikely scene for a Manhattan Mercedes-Benz dealership on Sept. 10 at 10 a.m. Hair dryers, curling irons, and makeup kits were sprawled out over a table on a balcony overlooking sleek convertibles and shiny, new sedans. But that can be assumed since there's nothing normal Carrie Hammer's Role Models, Not Runway Models presentation. In fact, we'd call it above average — extraordinary, if you must.

For four seasons now, Carrie has shaken up the New York fashion scene by featuring the clients of her made-to-measure designs on the runway instead of professional models. This season, the 25-person roster encompassed CEOs, entrepreneurs, activists, international influencers, and our own beauty editor Lauren Levinson! Plus, for the first time ever the show was sponsored by Dove, another brand that supports individuality.

Picking the role models is actually an in-depth process. Every woman on the runway is nominated by a former participant (kind of like paying it forward). Right now there is a wait list with 500 women for next season — yes, this is an exclusive bunch! The most important thing to Carrie is diversity. "We always make sure that we're representing every woman on the runway. Research that shows that if she can see it, she can be it," Carrie explained. "So we make sure every young woman can see herself reflected on the runway. Everyone see's someone they can aspire to be." That means there are women of all ethnicities and industries on the roll call.

Now, Carrie has created a community of former runway stars who can easily connect. "They can talk about their mutual experiences and immediately have a bond," she explained. "So we're creating a network of power women globally who can support each other. Like the old boys network, we have the role model network." In October, that group will extend internationally to China, where Carrie Hammer is hosting a Shanghai show.

This season POPSUGAR went backstage exclusively (where NYIB was doing the hair and makeup) to get corporate beauty tips and amazing life advice from the catwalkers. Carrie's own secret weapon is her Hourglass lipstick ($30). Keep reading to get more beauty products approved by these boss ladies. And if you see a dress you love, you'll be able to shop the exact outfit this Spring. Each outfit is named after the role model wearing it (so maybe you can channel her powerful persona)! We'll take two of the LaNeice, please.

Carrie Hammer Spring 2016

The role model: June Cohen, executive producer of TED Media

Everyday beauty essential: Although she rocked a blowout on the runway, June typically has a head full of curls. Her favorite products to tame frizz and define her ringlets are Devachan No Poo ($20) and Moroccanoil Intense Curl Cream ($31).

Confidence-boosting secret: With June's role at TED, she spends a lot of time working with public speakers. She's got three key ways to kick nerves before a big talk (which can help anyone master that big presentation). First, prepare and rehearse. "I always repeat the first three sentences I’m going to say over and over again, she said. "So when I step out on stage — even if I get nervous — my body goes into autodrive and knows what to do." Next, she takes a few minutes to walk out on the stage to view the audience before the talk. "It's a great way to get comfortable and get a connection to the audience," she explained. They’re just people who actually really want to hear what you have to say. Finally, appearance does matter. "I wear something that makes me smile. I think that it’s important to embrace your own style and wear things that make you feel confident in yourself."

Best advice (ever): "Work hard and be nice and it will draw success and opportunities."

The role model: LaNeice Collins, communications advisor at the United Nations

Everyday beauty essential: A bright lip is the one way Lenise stands out in a room. Two of her go-to shades are Nars Funny Face ($27) and MAC lip glass in Pop Mode ($17).

Confidence-boosting secret: "If my feet aren’t hurting and my hair looks good, I can rock it and I’m good to go!"

Best advice (ever): "There’s a famous quote that says 'be yourself because everyone else is already taken.'"

Carrie Hammer Spring 2016

The role model: Maysoon Zayid, writer and disability advocate

Everyday beauty essential: "I have a split beauty personality. When I’m on stage or on television doing standup comedy, I wear a lot of makeup, big Jersey hair, lashes, and eyeliner. Then, the rest of the time, I do no makeup and gym suits." Her favorite hairspray is by Chi ($16). Maysoon uses the products exclusively on her hair to keep her strands thick and healthy.

Confidence-boosting secret: "My catchphrase is: 'If I can, can. You can, can.' Meaning if I can do it, you can do it."

Best advice (ever): "Just get over it! You should never let your physical body or other people’s opinion of you hold you back. Only you get to define you. When something knocks you down, take a minute get over it, and get up. And if you can’t get over it, get help because there’s no shame in asking for help."

The role model: Lauren Levinson, beauty editor at POPSUGAR (our very own!)

Deskside beauty must have: "Mario Badescu rose water spray ($7) to refresh my face, Tata Harper Volumizing Lip and Cheek Tint ($35) to renew my glow when my 4 p.m. face fades, and Tom Ford lipstick in Plum Lush ($52) because it's my favorite color — the perfect rouge berry with a satin finish. Oribe Soft Dry Conditioner Spray ($36) is a must for giving flat hair some volume minus the poof if I'm going from my desk to dinner."

Confidence-boosting secret: "I've been taking dance lessons since I was two and a half years old, and nothing feeds my soul like moving to music. Dancing late night at a bar counts, too."

Best advice (ever): "'Fake it until you make it!' It's OK to walk past a velvet rope as long as no one stops you or say yes to a big work project then figure out how to do it later. Challenge yourself and you will succeed!"

Carrie Hammer Spring 2016

The role model: Meryl Davis, Olympic figure skater

Everyday beauty essential: After her stint on Dancing With the Stars, Meryl completely changed her outlook on beauty. Now she knows the difference between a quality foundation and black-market beauty. Right now she's using a lot of Kimiko Beauty and L'Occitane moisturizer for her dry skin.

Confidence-boosting secret: "I think overcoming obstacles is the greatest thing one can do for self-confidence. I’m not naturally a self-confident person so being able to face hurdles and come out on the other side stronger is a great way to do that."

Best advice (ever): "My favorite quote is: 'go confidently in the direction of your dreams and live the life you’ve imagined.' Life is so short. Why not live the life you’ve imagined for yourself?"

The role model: Tolu Olubunmi, social entrepreneur

Everyday makeup essential: Mascara and a bold lipstick are all Tolu needs to look her best (if you can't tell from the photo, her skin is flawless). Right now she's addicted to her Dior mascara ($29) for long, voluminous lashes.

Confidence-boosting secret: "What makes me feel confident is when I change a life in some way. Whatever we do working towards being a strength in the world, and not just leaving it as we found it."

Best advice (ever): Growing up, Tolu's father taught her about the importance of family. Her mantra is an old Nigerian saying that translates to "remember whose child you are." "It's all about family, heritage, faith, all of those things that are most critical to you in terms of how you live your life and how you impact others."

Carrie Hammer Spring 2016

Carrie Hammer Spring 2016

The role model: Rakia Reynolds, president and CEO of Skai Blue Media

Everyday beauty essential: It was Raika's hair that had us jealous backstage. The products that keep her curls moisturized are actually from the drugstore. Every day she uses a bit of aloe vera gel and coconut oil to twist up her Afro strands.

Deskside beauty must have: Like any power player, Rakia doesn't leave home without a bold red lipstick. Her favorite — MAC Ruby Woo ($17), duh.

Confidence-boosting secret: "My affirmations that I do every single morning with my kids. I always tell them that they are beautiful, bold, brilliant, powerful, unstoppable, unbeatable, and anything that they want to do is achievable. When I'm telling them that then I believe it myself."

Best advice (ever): "Hire slowly and fire fast."

The role model: Tayla Colton, director of programs at Keep a Child Alive, a nonprofit organization that supports community-based HIV projects in Africa and India

Confidence-boosting secret: "Being around badass women that are confident. I think that energy just creates more confident energy. I get to work with a lot of doctors and nurses, and young people and young women who live with HIV positively and with such strength. Their confidence makes me confident."

Best advice (ever): "'Always paddle your own canoe' and 'always take the high road.' My mom always told me that as a young girl when I faced challenges and people picked on me."

The role model: Christine Osekoski, executive VP of Katz Radio group, a division of iHeartRadio

Everyday beauty essential: As a natural redhead, Christine has superfair facial hair. Before heading to the office she coats her lashes with Trish McEvoy mascara ($31). She's also a fan of the Fresh Sugar Lip colors ($23) in Honey and Nude.

Deskside beauty must have: Christine keeps her Kerstin Florian Rehydrating Neroli Water ($35) at arm's length. "Neroli is orange blossom and it just makes you feel alive and beautiful all the time. I literally spray that on every morning when I wake up — without fail."

Best advice (ever): "Never say no to any kind of experience. You’re given so many opportunities to excel or to experience new things in your life. Say yes to life — always."

The role model: Joya Dass, television anchor New York 1 and cofounder of the women's networking initiative Ladydrinks

Everyday beauty essential: Being on TV daily, Joya has no shortage of product recommendations. She's become a pro at applying her own face and admitted to watching a Kim Kardashian's video tutorials for makeup tips (#girlcrush). Hands down, her favorite foundation is by Make Up For Ever ($43) because the band does so well at matching her Indian skin tone.

Best advice (ever): "Be yourself. You are the most unique thing that you bring to the table."

Carrie Hammer Spring 2016

The role model: Satya Twena, CEO of Satya Twena Fine Millinery, the last hat factory in NYC

Everyday beauty essential: Because Satya spends most of her days behind the scenes in her factory (think industrial-size sewing machines and hot ovens), her beauty philosophy is minimal. She uses Osea Malibu daily to keep her skin hydrated and clean.

Deskside beauty must have: At any given time, Satya could have six tubes of NARS Red Lizard lipstick ($27) on her person. It's her go-to shade for big meetings, and she loves to share her secret weapon with her girlfriends.

Confidence-boosting secret: "A hat. If you're a superhero it's like wearing a cape."

Best advice (ever): Satya's golden rule actually came from her significant other. "He said, 'If we are going to make this relationship work, we have to give each other the benefit of the doubt.' It has served me well in business as well as in relationships. You don't judge somebody or their actions on what you're feeling but based on the assumption that they have your best intentions in mind and that there was just a lapse in judgment for that moment." He sounds like a keeper to us!
