Ready to cut your hair short for Fall? Allure has the scoop on the sexiest cut of the season.
C'mon, cut your hair short. All the cool girls are doing it. Karlie Kloss has an awesome bob, courtesy of superstar hairstylist Garren. Jessica Stam has a sexy pixie, which Garren cut for the September issue of Allure. And now, supermodel Coco Rocha and chic French photographer Garance Doré both have . . . wait for it . . . an undercut. But if you remember the '80s, don't worry — it's softer-looking than the original undercuts (the top is long and the sides are short, but not buzzed).
"It's a short cut, but it's feminine," says Anh Co Tran, a hairstylist at Ramirez Tran salon in Los Angeles who gave Rocha her new short cut (watch Allure's exclusive video of her transformation). "Because it's longer on top, it's also really versatile. You can wear it to one side or push it back, which is my favorite look." But let's get real: The cut looks so amazing on Rocha in part because anything would look so amazing on Rocha. "It's easiest to pull off if you have small features and a lot of confidence," says Tran, adding that (on the plus side) the undercut works on any hair type other than curly. "The thicker your hair, the longer you can keep the top," he says. "Fine hair gets stringy if it's too long."
If you're up for taking the plunge (I'm impressed!), styling the cut is really easy, because it looks best when it's (kinda) dirty: "I love an undercut on second-day hair that has some oomph," says Tran, who suggests misting dry shampoo over dry hair to create a cool, mussed texture. If you're starting with freshly shampooed hair (also impressive!), use a texturizing spray while your hair is damp, then air-dry. "After the hair is dry, I like to lightly mist it with a light-hold hair spray," says Tran. "The top layers will stay wherever you put them, but you can still move them around throughout the day."
