Comic: Girls and Haircuts

Post-Haircut Regret Stars in a Cute Comic

If you go from long hair to short, is it an emotional roller coaster with an unhealthily high peak and some very low doldrums afterward? This funny little illustration from Gusto suggests that, at least to one art director, there's a discernible pattern when it comes to "girls" and haircuts. Lots of people (not just women, by the way) get the postcut blues. After all, it's natural to be excited by the novelty of a new style, and then eventually get nostalgic for your long hair and its versatility.

The best way to avoid short-cut regret is to find lots of ways to style your hair so you never feel like you've lost options. Instead, you've just given yourself a cool new set of looks that you could never have worn before. Do you think this is a fair representation of the haircut emotional cycle, though? Or are things a little more complex than this?

That's so not me. I'll grow it super long then chop it all off without a second thought. I guess I just love having long hair and short hair equally.

I can definitely relate. So wishing I had the option to braid/ponytail/bun it right now. :(

Oh yea, that's definitely me. What's funnier is that the comic shows exactly the hair cut I went from and the one I went to one year except I had straight bangs! I always regret cutting my long hair!

Things are definitely more complex, but as a jokey little comic, it's funny. I have long hair for the first time in years, and while it's fine, I definitely miss my short hair frequently.

Tell me about it. Last December, I cut my super long hair and got a bob. Then, a month later, I went a little shorter. After a few weeks, I got a pixie. Now, my hair is a short bob and I super miss my long hair because I just learned how to do a French braid and I'm dying to try it out.
