DIY Honey Facial Mask For Acne and Scarring

This DIY Mask Really Works

Since I've gone natural, lots of people have written in with great tips and ideas about fixes for my skin and hair. Recently, reader Tlsgirl tipped me off to this great recipe of hers from the Do-It-Yourself Beauty group. I tried it last night and it's l-o-v-e. She's totally right about the dripping, though. Here's what she has to say:

I just started using this mask a few weeks ago and I'm a believer already. I have crazy sensitive skin, acne, and some vicious scarring, and already the scars are fading and my breakouts are diminishing. It's like a minor miracle, or a major one if you're obsessed with your skin like me. I was the biggest skeptic ever, but it hasn't irritated my cranky skin a bit.

Recipe:
1 tbsp honey — I used regular honey, nothing fancy
1 tsp ground nutmeg — I used whole nutmeg and then grated it myself
1 tsp ground cinnamon

Mix the above together until they form a chocolatey-colored paste, adjusting as you go until you get the consistency you like. Let sit for about 30 minutes, then rinse off, using the nutmeg crumblies as a natural exfoliant. Just don't wear a cute shirt while you're doing this, since it'll drip.

Tried the mask and it started to burn so I quickly rinsed it off and now my skin is super red, swollen and itchy and I don't even have sensitive skin!!!! Probably an allergic reaction. ALWAYS test on your hand to check if it irritates your skin.

I just put this on my face, and am super excited to see what happens! I've been looking for a natural remedy for my acne scarring, and I have my fingers crossed that this mask, simple as it is, can be the answer!

Can you apply this mask daily? I couldn't find a solid answer in the other comments.

i have this on my face right now and am looking forward to potential results. has anyone figured out how often to put it on? i have some prominent acne scars and am looking to get the biggest bang on the results. this is so much better than laser treatments. :)

It looks like an awesome DIY mask, which I kinda love, because I'm all for the natural products and using less chemicals. So, I'm definitely going to buy some cinnamon today, because i've run out of!

I tried it recently. I have sensitive skin so I put it on for about 25 min instead. My friend walked in and thought I had Nutella on my face. haha! It felt very smooth and soft after I rinsed it off although I was as red as a cooked lobster. I smelled like pastries all day (which is good)! My face felt softer the next morning but that was the extent of it so far. I'm going to try it every week to see if it makes a noticeable difference to the look of my skin. Products like these usually take a month for me to show noticeable results that last more than just a day. Thanks for the beauty tip!

It's off! My skin was bright red at first, but i attribute it to both the nutmeg as an exfoliant irritating the skin as well as the plumping from the cinnamon. My skin is incredibly soft and already looks clearer, especially through the cheeks. I will definately use this on a regular basis.

I've been meaning to try this since I saw it on here a few weks ago. Perfect for a morning before you hop in the shower! I always feel so spa-like when I do facials, too. It's on my face and will let you know the results. I plan to use it about once a week, it smells great and I might just be licking the drips when they encounter my lips. yum.

I tried this right after I read about it yesterday......it felt and smelled wonderful (especially after warming the honey in the microwave for a couple seconds!) and my skin felt nice and soft after. One question though — for the great results Tisgirl got, how often did she use it? Every day? Once a week?
