Definition: Mexoryl

Definition: Mexoryl (Ecamsule)

Ecamsule is the only photostable sun protectant that fully blocks short UVA rays, the nasty little buggers responsible for photoaging, sun damage, and similar ill effects. This widest of the wide-spectrum sunscreens is a relative newcomer to the US market (FDA approved in 2006), but it's an important advance in protecting your skin, so it's worth checking to see whether your sunscreen of choice lists it as an active ingredient. On the high end of things, Lancome UV Expert 20 ($35) is a gentle mexoryl-based formulation suitable for sensitive skin. More cheaply, it's available in L'Oreal Revitalift UV ($8), which is also an anti-aging moisturizer.

i agree that la roche-posay is worth it. the only one that doesn't smell or is sticky! i was very pleasantly surprised. i used clinique before that and it does have an odour and is sooo shinny and sticky.

My La Roche-Posay has it :) though I still use city block for my face... want to finish it off first. It's nice that Loreal bought out all this expensive brands and uses the same ingredients in its cheaper versions :)

I heard of the "ingredient" before it was legal...people in my home state used to buy it undercover. It wasn't bad just to be approved and I remember wanting to find out where to get, it's great that it's now legal and widely available. I'm definitely going to try the Lancome version, thanks Bella :).
