The Detox, Day 1: A Farewell to Acne

Yesterday, I began my five-day journey to the land of detox, mostly in hopes of rejuvenating my lackluster complexion and recurring battle with chin and forehead acne. While I have realistic expectations, as I'm not anticipating perfectly flawless skin à la Reese Witherspoon in under a week, I chose the David Kirsch Wellness brand of detox just for that reason: it's a gentle detox, not a blow-through-your-system-with-fury type of cleanse.

Yesterday began with a grape-y flavored, vitamin-packed shot, a thick (almost too much so) chocolate-flavored protein shake for breakfast, and a train ride into work. Would I get shaky? Would I feel light-headed on the rails? In short, no. And by the time noon rolled around, my pre-lunch energy-boosting bubble drink, followed by a simple salad with lemon juice and four ounces of protein, was a welcome treat. I didn't even feel left wanting for more. To find out what else happened on day one of my experimental detox, just keep reading.

Although the college sophomore version of me might disagree, an all-liquid based anything is just not for this Bella. While repetitive, my dish at dinner was the same I ate for lunch; it was substantial enough to keep me full and I was still able to concentrate until my head hit the pillow. My hopes for this detox? To put me back on track, to simplifying my diet by making me more aware of eating "clean" foods, and mostly, to see if I can improve my scorned-by-the-dermatologist complexion. Stay tuned for the following four days of my detox to see if I can achieve this beauty boost.

Thanks for sharing, anonymous! Since I wrote this, I've done the detox twice already. I love it, too. After, you feel very clear-minded and more focused. Glad you like it so much!

Bella; I don't know what your dermatologist was talking about - you have a beautiful complexion! I love your haircut too! As for your detox diet; you are inspiring me - I would never have thought that it would be so seemingly easy but you're making me believe!

I find that a lot of the time my skin initially gets worse for the first few weeks of a detox, but good luck!
