Did You Have a Birthmark?

As you may imagine, birthmarks get that name since they most often form before or shortly after birth. Abnormal cell development in the skin can result in this accumulation of blood in a localized area, and thus comes the spot. From stork bites (a flat pink area that disappears in months) to port-wine stains (more permanent and purplish), some stay with us forever while others fade. Do these sound familiar? My pal PetSugar served as our model of her slowly fading strawberry mark from babyhood to the present day.

I still have a birthmark. It's on one side of my neck where it meets the shoulder. Luckily my hair is long enough I can cover it up.

The strawberry on the neck seems pretty common and I had it too. Cute story actually as my Mom thought it made her look as if she "caught my neck in my snowsuit."Thanks for the memory. And that little girl in the picture is sweet, absolutelyfab, you're right.

I have a splotchy red mark just a bit bigger than a nickel on the back of my left shoulder just above the crease where my arm meets. It looks like a hickey and I constantly get a hard time about it even from people I don't know. I'm a bit self conscious about it as I don't like attention, especially not from strangers.

plasticine, I think you're thinking of beautymarksI have a small, light brown marking on the underside of my thigh, but oddly I had never noticed it until my teens. Even my mom asked me what the mark was... maybe it darkened slightly with age?

I have a strawberry birthmark on my neck that was so big and swollen as a baby I had to be taken to a specialist. With the medication that was given to me, it scarred the side of my neck. So not only do I have a birthmark but it's scarred as well. Needless to say, I do get some stares.

I have a light white birthmark on the back of my leg. Apparently my grandmother used to have one in the same spot, which I think is kind of cool.

I don't really consider moles as birth marks. I always thought birth marks were larger even when you were a baby. I have one on my inner arm, no one can see it.

I have two. First, I have one on my left big toe resembling a burn and it is considerably lighter than my skin tone. The other mark is on the back of my arm also resembling a burn patch; but, it's slightly darker than my skin tone.

I had about a quarter-sized dark birth mark over my left eye. It was raised, and hair grew out of it, it was really gross. I had it removed my Junior year of high school, because my dermatologist was worried it was cancerous. Thankfully it wasn't, but I freaked out that they were going to hack into my skull...and they didn't do that either!

I have a twin brother and we both had one on our right hips. Mine was a circle and his was a clover shaped spot, just a little darker than our skin. Mine is gone now, or it's covered up by stretch marks. I'm not sure about his.
