Do You Buy Perfume Samples?

With sites like LuckyScent and The Perfumed Court, it's easier than ever to try tiny vials of fragrances before making the financial commitment to the full-sized bottle.

Earlier this year, I was mildly obsessed with the thought of smelling of cherry tobacco. Five mini testers later and a whole lot of whiffing, and I discovered that People of the Labyrinths Luctor et Emergo ($180) fits the bill nicely. Of course, there are lots of free perfume samples to be had at beauty counters, but when it comes to more obscure or boutique fragrances, buying samples might just be the way to go. What about you? Do you purchase mini versions of perfumes to test out the fragrant waters, and if not, is it something you'd consider?

I would buy perfume samples of niche fragrances! You just can't get them at Sephora or Nordstrom.

I bought my mom a perfume sampler from sephora that included a coupon for a bottle of one of the fragrances. It was a fun gift because she got to try them all out and eventually got a bottle of the one she liked best.

I have a zillion samples, but they're all free. I would not pay money for a sample. Sephora will bottle any fragrance you want in a sample size for free; Ulta often has free samples behind the counter; other stores usually have tester bottles (which, while you can't take them home and try it for a few days, is better than nothing). I am, however, into the smaller-sized versions of fragrances. I can only think of one bottle of fragrance that I have ever used up the entire contents of. Otherwise, they end up sitting on my vanity for a long time before ever getting used up (IF ever getting used up). Not every fragrance has a smaller size available, but I like them if they do. They're more portable and less expensive.

I have TONS of perfume samples! I mostly buy from Black Phoenix Alchemy lab - they have such a huge catalog of scents, you can always find something that works for you. They have a line of scents for several Neil Gaiman books, as well as comics such as Hellboy, Witchblade, and others. They also bring out Limited Editions for Halloween/Yule/etc.

I have mini perfume bottles stashed everywhere. They're great for getting ready on the go or for getting ready to go out after work or school.
