Do You Put Too Much Pressure on Yourself?

A recent study finds that more than half of women aged 35 to 55 are unhappy with their looks, and that 80% say that they put pressure on themselves to look better. Do you think you put too much pressure on yourself to look a certain way?

I do. It seems where ever you go, even the Post Office, someones inspecting you. Some people can be so bold/rude. And I live in a little town in North Carolina. I know it's a zillion times worse in for instance where I was born, L.A

Day to day I really don't feel the pressure because I'm living out in the country doing my own thing. I'm at an age where I accept myself "warts and all" because in my case you can't fight genetics!!! But when we have to revisit our old life ( we 're retired and transplanted), my wrinkles do seem a little worse. My middle looks that much thicker and then I'm concerned with the clothes I'll wear! I really hate the insecure feelings that surface. But when I'm just everyday me I'm fine.

I never really thought of it, but I do. I think I have a little extra baggage, that's why I always try to look chic. Well, I love all my materialistic possesions, but that's a different story! :)

Only occasionally do I put too much pressure on myself, like for interviews or a night out with the girls. (I can't be the bummy looking friend in the group.) Actually I'm quite relaxed all of the time about how I look & how I take care of myself. Sometimes relaxed to the point that I don't mind leaving the house looking like a bum & more often than not my hair is in a pony tail. maybe i should put a little more pressure on myself, just to step it up & put the best me out to the world.

no girl in this society can say that they don't feel this pressure to always refine their appearance, it's hegemonic and everywhere. I especially dislike the whole "puffy eyes and dark circles" thing. we are told that this is inevidable but then pushed to buy endless products to try and "cure it." i've realized something interesting, even little kids have circles and puffy eyes! babies have it, but we don't think of it as unappealing because their skin is otherwise so youthful. the other thing...guys don't notice any of this. we are the only ones who see it because the media pushes it on our beautiful faces. but ultimately, no guy should have to reaffirm our beauty and self-confidence.

I do pay more attention to how my skin and body look by watching more of what I eat.I don't put too much pressure on myself but I am kinder to myself than I was a few years ago, such as quiting the smoking habit for good. It has made me a happier person.
