Don't Miss This Documentary on the Anti-Aging Obsession

Set your TiVo, make plans with a friend who has HBO, do whatever it takes . . . but don't forget about Youth Knows No Pain, a documentary airing this Monday at 9 p.m. on HBO. Filmmaker Mitch McCabe, the daughter of a plastic surgeon, sets out to explore our society's relationship to aging — or rather, trying to prevent any and all signs of growing older. The resulting film, which covers the rise of fillers, cosmetic surgery, and other youth-preserving attempts, looks fascinating. To check out the trailer (really, you should) and to find out how you can get your questions answered by the filmmaker, just read more.

I'll be speaking with McCabe tomorrow, so leave any questions for her in the comments — I'll be sure to ask as many as possible.

i'm 21 and it's unnerving reading and hearing about all these ways to reverse age! i find myself staring in the mirror, looking at lines developing and then it's like, wait! i'm only 21, calm down! just being bombarded with all of this makes me worry way too soon. also, 28 is not old...you're as old as you feel.

I agree with Glowing Moon. I love how I look and I always will.

I agree Glowing Moon. It's so obvious they don't feel comfortable in their own skin. It makes me feel sad for them.

Interesting. I do feel sorry for some of the people in the documentary. They had so much insecurity and fear. Poor people.

The sheer superficiality just baffles me. You are as old as you feel. Seriously.

What I want to know is, can you buy something not too expensive at a department store that can reverse some of the aging effects, because I could never afford to have any procedure done.

It's all too ridiculous. I am 32, and have never looked better, and have never felt better. And all it takes is eating well, working out, wearing sunscreen, and thousands of dollars a year in painful laser treatments. {Sigh...}

I'm half way through 26 and lately I've been thinking about my age in terms of the way I dress. For example, I went to buy some trendy dresses and I stood in the dressing room thinking-- am I too old to wear this? Do I look stupid? This is the first experience I've had with being "too old." If I had one question for this filmmaker it would be-- at what age did you find that people started struggling with their age? What was the first event that kicked it off? Most importantly, how can women not get sucked up into this insanity?

I would love to know what procedures she's done & what she's reconsidered or regretted doing as a result of this documentary. Examining the obsession with youth and beauty would make one want to draw away from it, I would imagine. I will definitely be watching this...

28 is old? Awesome. Then next year, I'm using my senior citizens discount to get cheaper movie tickets. On a serious note though, this is exactly why people's obsession with youth turns me off. I might want to see that.
