Emma Stone's Makeup Favorites

Emma Stone: "Makeup Is Never a Chore For Me"

As the face of Revlon, Emma Stone already possesses a keen interest in makeup. But the experience of getting into character on the set of one of her latest movies, Gangster Squad, took it to a whole new level. "The craziest part was Christien Tinsley [the film's head makeup artist] trying to make my skin one solid shade, because I have freckles," Emma says. "So they literally had to do concealer, then foundation, then concealer, then foundation again. I felt like Queen Elizabeth I."

The strong brows and bold lipstick shades her character wears in the film, however, are now among some of her favorite palettes. Emma even started playing around with these midcentury-inspired looks in her every day life, which is a pretty big departure from her typical day-to-day makeup. She shares her beauty philosophies when you read on.

"I can't do hair to save my life!" she says with a laugh. "But I appreciate makeup. It's never a chore for me." Her love of makeup started when she was younger, especially from her time doing her own makeup in youth theater and from her mother. "She loves makeup, so I always had fun playing around with hers."

Emma also credits her mother with the fact that she plays favorites with red hair, even though she's currently a blonde. "She has red hair, so I'm drawn to it sentimentally." Her mom also taught her the importance of SPF, something that Emma is always sure to include in her daily beauty regimen.

When she doesn't have Tinsley layering on the concealer, Emma sticks to a pretty minimalistic take on makeup. "My M.O. is to keep really hydrated and to clear up my skin," she says. Lately she's been scrubbing up with Cetaphil's Gentle Cleansing Bar ($5) and layering on an SPF before reaching for her makeup. She's also been loving Revlon's Nearly Naked Makeup ($10, available early next month), a lightweight foundation that's part of Revlon's latest line. "It has SPF and my freckles show through," she says with a laugh. And if you've got 'em, you might as well flaunt 'em.

Good! She doesn't need a lot of make-up, Emma is a natural beauty. And indeed, no need to hide the freckles! I always admire them.
