Essie Launching Makeup

Color Me Happy: Essie Heads Into the Makeup Biz

If you're a diehard Essie fan, I think you'll be excited to hear this latest news. L'Oréal has purchased the nail polish company. And when a major corporation acquires a smaller business, that means changes are ahead. In this case, not only will Essie's presence expand into mass retailers, but it'll also expand into a new makeup line. Currently, Essie, which was started almost 30 years ago by Esther Weingarten, makes more than 300 nail polish shades and just a few lip gloss offerings.

"I am staying on and very committed," Weingarten told WWD of her plans. "My baby was starting to grow so fast and we just saw it going to new heights and we needed the right partner. We saw that only one company could do cosmetics to perfection and that’s L'Oréal," she added. What do you think about this forthcoming Essie makeup line? Are you looking forward to seeing the new offerings, or do you think the market's too crowded already?

I wonder if this means the prices will drop a bit as well? Also, will they be sold at drugstores like other L'Oreal products?

I really hope they don't change the formula of Essie polish

That's too bad. L'Oreal is still listed on Caring Consumers Companies That Do Test on Animals list. Guess I won't be using the new Essie products.
