Fragrance Review: Dolce & Gabbana The One

Fragrance Review: Dolce & Gabbana The One

The latest fragrance from Dolce & Gabbana is The One. You've probably seen the ads, featuring Gisele Bundchen doing the sexy-lady thing she does so well. (Still, when I see "The One," I can't stop thinking of the Backstreet Boys.)

The One is a warm, floral Oriental fragrance. It has top notes of bergamot and mandarin, with touches of lychee and peach. The heart note is more floral, and as the fragrance dries down, you can smell notes of vanilla and sweet amber. I expected this fragrance to be overtly sexy, much like the gorgeous dresses Dolce & Gabbana are known for. What I got, though, was somethin' else. Find out what it was when you

When I received the Eau de Parfum, I giddily opened it. I gave a spritz to my arm and waited for my sexy aura to become unmistakable. While that technically happened, it was a very special kind of sexiness: The sexiness embodied in Blanche Devereaux. Y'see, the scent leans just a little too much into the "mature" side of things. I even asked DannySF to take a sniff—and without me saying anything to him, he said, "It's nice... but it's a little old-lady."

That sums it up pretty well: It's a nice enough scent, but certainly not a signature fragrance—and definitely not something I'd expect to smell on a very young woman. If you're a huge D&G fan, you might want to try this, but otherwise, it's just so-so. Finally, I found the commercial for the fragrance, which manages to make Gisele seem like a demanding diva. I'm sure she's just acting (I've heard through the grapevine that she's super down-to-earth) but the ad certainly doesn't make me want to smell The One.

I loved that song by the Backstreet Boys! I'm not a huge fan of the commercial for this though. It didn't seem to have much of a point.

Oh My God!! Whoever wrote that it is an old lady fragrance is wrong wrong wrong. Old lady is heavy...this is light. It is one of those unforgetable fragrances where you cannot get enough on you and you just want to bathe in it. It is not heavy at all. Of course fragrance is all about chemistry...and this one is perfect for mine. It is sensuous and divine.

i bought it yesterday, and sadly was NOT impressed. I've smelled the version pour homme, which was fantastic so figured that, given the fabulous ad, the female version would be equally good..and it wasn't. it smells fine, but doesn't make me FEEL anything :-( should have stuck to vera wang princess *whines*

I don't think it is as old woman as we'd like to think. White Diamonds is old woman. Being a parfum connoisseur myself, I find that "The One" is for a mature young lady... someone maybe in her late 20s to early 40s, well-read, well traveled, feminine and classy. I went to the store yesterday and found it, and after a lifetime of being obsessed with fragrances, I felt as though I finally found the perfect one. It's light and sensual, just enough vanilla and musk to add the sensuality, and fruity and floral enough to tell that it's for a woman... not overly done. To me, it's like the Mary Poppins of perfumes. This was after trying the Burberry Brit, which I felt was a tad too manly... and J.Lo's brand new fragrance (in a blue bottle, name I can't remember), that was way too tropical and spicy for me, considering the climate I live in. Needless to say, I had to buy it... and I've completely fallen head over heels for it. :)

I have several samples, and I love it. I use it as a night scent. I don't think it smells like an old lady at all, but perfume is all about chemistry. We all smell perfumes differently. I get good compliments!
