Getting a Brazilian Bikini Line "Facial"

What It's Like to Get a Brazilian "Facial"

We're happy to present this article from one of our favorite sites, Real Beauty.

This weekend I got my very first facial. On an area other than my face. Captivated by a treatment that fights irritating ingrown hairs and, frankly, something that dares to deem itself a facial for your sensitive spots, I volunteered to try.

Named the Brazilian Facial (!!), it's New York's Strip Ministry of Waxing's effort to assuage lady problems that come along with regular waxing (dryness, ingrowns, acne). You can go to your appointment already bare or combine services with the "Wax & Polish." To find out about the experience, just keep reading.

After the salon's standard Brazilian, a technician exfoliates the area with a suction-tube similar to the microdermabrasion units used during typical face facials. The machinery is used in tandem with a topical solution meant to address personal concerns (I picked ingrowns, with a solution that includes salicylic acid, but options also exist for dryness or discoloration). The sucking is a little strange, but compared to a no-hair-spared Brazilian, it's a walk in the park. The überexfoliation helps slough away dead skin cells and get pesky, coiled-up in-grown hairs closer to the surface so the technician can go at 'em with tweezers.

Coming out of it, my skin is smooth and irritation-free, but I don't think I'm glowing like I would after a regular facial. Which, actually, might be kind of freaky. If you're not quite ready for such up-close-and-personal spa'ing, the treatment is also available for troublesome zones on your underarms, elbows, knees, or bum.
